Jewel of the Seas

8 Night Pacific Coastal Southbound (Vancouver To Los Angeles)

Sail date: September 18, 2015

Ship: Jewel of the Seas

Cabin type: Oceanview

Cabin number: 4006

Traveled as: Family (young children)

Review summary

This ship was perfect for the young children in our group (16 family members) which gave the adults lots of freedom.  Although the ship could use some updating.  My biggest complaint is that the tenders were unable to accommodate wheelchairs so two of the ports of call were unaccessible.  Crew members are not allowed to assist.  No compensation from Royal Caribbean.

I was wrong. In April of next year, Jewel will be getting a makeover, that is scheduled to take 3 weeks.

I believe the ship is in the port of L.A. Getting made over, before its journey to San Juan.

The answer to your complaint is spelled out completely on the Royal Caribbean website here.... http://www.royalcaribbean.com/contentWithHero.do?pagename=getting_on_and_off_the_ship

There is also a list of ports where tenders are commonly used. It also plainly states "If guests are unable to tender or disembark because of due to these circumstances, there will be no refund or credit for missed ports. While we recognize your disappointment, the safety of our guests and crew takes precedence.".‚  You must understand that transferring someone that is wheelchair bound is very difficult and dangerous when going to a tender. I recommend that for your next cruise you take a little bit of time to research if tenders are being used at any of your ports.
