Independence of the Seas

3 Night Bahamas & Perfect Day (Port Canaveral Roundtrip)

Sail date: September 16, 2022

Ship: Independence of the Seas

Traveled as: Family (young children)

Reviewed: 2 years ago

Review summary

Where there were numerous specialty dining options, quick service food options were limited compared to other lines. Entertainment was great! The ship was nice despite it needing some reamplification. Overall great experience!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarking from Port of Canaveral was less challenging for us than other ports but we really haven’t found any process at any port a real challenge. There was some confusion among port staff and TSA during our back to back disembarkation and re-embarkation process. Regardless, it was painless!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The variety at the Windjammer was great and it changed from day to day. For quick service food Sorento’s Pizza was a hit and the line would get long. Johnny Rockets was never busy.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
My son stayed in the “kid’s casino” and I tried the “adult arcade” and won enough to pay off my onboard account. The track was in great condition but get out there before sunrise!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Freeze Frame was a fantastic ice show. We saw it twice. I’m surprised there weren’t more falls! How can anyone ice skate and jump and twirl on a cruise ship?! They were very talented! The comedians, performers and musicians were outstanding! Grease was a great show!

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
My son is 11. He really didn’t like or dislike the kid’s club. He tried it once and never went back. At least it’s an option!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
I haven’t been on a cruise where the staff didn’t smile, wasn’t friendly or wasn’t awesomely helpful. Maybe I’m lucky?

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Certainly due for reamplification but the staff works very hard to stay on top of things! If guests would practice appropriate cruise etiquette, staff wouldn’t spend so much of their time gathering dishes and glasses that were stashed away in plants, hallways, hand railings …

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We stayed in 7211 during the first part of our back to back and in 1864 during the second part. Both attendants were fantastic and the rooms were cool and perfect! Zero complaints!

Ship tip

If you like the party, book the 3 day weekend itinerary. If you like to relax, book the 4 day during the week. Yes, you’ll see a difference. We did the back to back and saw it for ourselves.

Ports of call

Nassau, Bahamas

3 out of 5
Well, it’s Nassau. It’s still Nassau no matter what you try to do to improve it. I’m gonna try jogging up to Fort Charlotte or get a taxi to take me to Cabbage Beach next time. I don’t believe it is a fair representation of what the Bahamas has to offer.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Sadly easy! I didn’t wanna leave!

I agree the staff are amazing. Enjoyed the production show but wasn't a fan of the jugglers. Not sure if you hD same ones. (Wilde and James)
