We are long time R/C (diamond level) users, but we will take a break from using them for a while. Maybe they will return to former excellence in food, drinks, entertainment.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
Did not like that fact that the porters weren't allowed to meet us on the sidewalk. We had to walk with bags all the way down to the entrance. Once bags were taken, the rest of process was good.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
Dining room menu options have changed significantly, offerings/quality/taste below par. Izumi was excellent. Feel they are now pushing the specialty restaurants for nightly attendance, instead of the main dining room.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Visited the solarium deck area - disappointed that children were allowed, in this adult only environment. Drinks in all lounges tasted weak (even when asked for name brand liquors. Ony exception was in the Diamond Lounge.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Musicians great. Acting in Grease was awful (too corny). Columbus was cancelled. Adult comedy show was insulting.
Children's Programs
No participation/no kids
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Room steward good, not happy about once day service (instead of twice). Dining room wait staff were adequate (ours was new).
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Well maintained.
Cabin / Stateroom

Very clean, but the bed was not comfortable (could feel something poking in our back/hips). Our attendant, John was very good, friendly, and helpful.
Seems like everything has gone up in price and down in quality. Cruising is not what it was but neither is anything else. Hotels, restaurants, all inclusive resorts have changed similarly.
Despite what RoyalCruzer says food quality in MDR has gone down significantly post COVID. With the fares up and drink packages up it won’t be long till I feel priced out of cruising. It used to be the best bang for my buck. We have two currently booked but not sure after that if we will continue. Prices and policies won’t change as long as all the cruise lines have full to capacity trips. We have been loyal to Royal and will hit Diamond on our next cruise.
Royal service, food and entertainment are far above the industry. People perceive that the change in menus altered the food quality, this is just not accurate. In regards to specialty restaurants, don't go if you don't want too, but do not criticize them marketing their product.
I’ve never cruised on Royal but as other comments have said, you could take this review and apply to just about every ship out there just now. If you can rate your cruise as good/ok you’re probably doing alright! Still love cruising though (for now)
Sorry for the subpar service. Unfortunately, it's what to expect from the ships. It's just helping cement staying away from cruising. Maybe someday, people will get fed up with the money vs. service.
Cruising overall isn't like it used to be. Just think, 10-15 years from now we will look back and think these were the good days. So enjoy while you can. Thanks for your review.
