Despite us (apparently me) not realizing this was spring break week and the ship being over run with kids having fun, we had a great time. It really didn't seem overcrowded and you could get around. We enjoyed it so much that my wife gave me permission to book another cruise while we were there, just not on spring break.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Embarkation was quick and painless, plentiful check in staff, only had one person in front of us.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We ate dinner in the main dining room each night. The service was exceptional, the menu always had something good for our individual tastes, and the food was really good. We ate in the buffet and it was, well a pretty typical Royal buffet. The food was good and the staff was helpful.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
To be honest, we just lounged around in the sun on sea days. This was a decompression cruise, so had no ambition to participate in anything active, other than going up and down stairs.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
We really enjoyed the shows in the aqua theater and "Columbus a Musical" in the main theater. The performance of Grease was interesting. Considering this was not an adult only show, there were a lot of references to adult content and vulgar gestures. Some of the cast could really sing, but a couple of others were not so good. Other music around the ship was pretty standard, and as usual, the ship's orchestra was awesome!
Children's Programs
Finally got all our kids out of the house and don't have to take them on vacation with us anymore!
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Every member of the crew was friendly and helpful. They were all smiles and went out of their way to serve you. Our room steward, Adi, was great. Even though the cruise line has cut down the service to once day, we were always greeted with a nice clean room and fresh towels.. some in the shape of animals.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
They have made a few changes since we last sailed on an Oasis Class ship, but it only took us a day to remember where things were.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Our cabin was clean, well appointed, and did not show signs of wear. When we first arrived, we looked at the closets (closed) and thought we were going to be cramped, but the interior space was well laid out and we had space left over, which is a rarity with my wife's cruising wardrobe.
Ship tip
If you want a great salad, head to deck 8, Central Park Cafe. Soups, salads, and paninis! It is rarely crowded...
We took the Trunk Bay Beach at St. John Excursion. It was beautiful, but due to the number of hours in port, we did not have enough time to actually enjoy it as much as we would have liked.
This was our first time at Coco Cay, since the remodel. The Mariner of the Seas was also there and it seemed really crowded on the beach and especially the pool. The food was awesome and there was a good selection.
Probably not fair, but the disembarkation was a total cluster. This was apparently due to a hold up with immigration. We had no flights to catch, so we sat and watched the mess from above.
Appreciate your detailed feedback. It seems Spring Break is longer every year. This year it’s all of March and half of April. It’s hard to plan. Also avoid Thanksgiving week. Glad you enjoyed your cruise in spite of the crowds.
