Review summary

I had a great time and enjoyed being with my friends but there were pros and cons to the ship. I’ve been on six RCL cruises over the past 30 years so compared to my first cruise 30 years ago some things have gone downhill. My first cruise years ago was amazing. Every bite of food was absolutely delicious. The ship was gorgeous and the guests were treated like kings and queens. The staff was overly friendly and accommodating and would practically knock you down to say hello with a big smile on their face. I understand that with over 6000 passengers it’s a different experience but even The Majesty of the Seas, that I went on several years ago, the quality of the food had gone down. Pros HOTS- The entertainment was amazing! I loved the ice skating shows and the comedians were great. I was so glad they celebrated the 4th of July with the National Anthem and 2000 balloons. The ship was beautiful, especially Central Park. Cons- The food- Some things were good . I enjoyed the seafood and desserts but the meat and chicken were not good . They basically had the same menu each night except for one or two entrees and one or two desserts would be different There was no midnight buffet with the beautiful ice sculptures. That used to be one of the highlights of a cruise. There was no where to sit inside to enjoy the ocean view. All the bars and public places were in the center of the ship with no views. They charge you for a lot of things that used to be included. Also, they add on high gratuities on everything. We have always tipped well but now they automatically make you tip. Probably because some people didn’t tip well. I think for families it’s a fun ship but if you are looking for something a little more upscale for couples another cruise line might be a better choice.

Food and Dining

Meat and chicken were not good at all. Seafood was good. Desserts were good. Too much of the same choices in each night. When did RCL start charging for ‘better’ food choices in MDR?!

Schooner Bar

Enjoyed relaxing there with a cocktail.

Boardwalk Dog House

No chili for the hotdogs

Main Dining Room

My Time Dining was too busy and crowded. Early seating was too early and late too late so this was our only choice. It hurts the waiters reviews because you have different ones each night. Food was not that good and felt like they were rushing us out.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Staff not friendly or attentive enough. We called 2 nights in a row because our steward didn’t leave washcloths and it took 45 minutes to get them

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship was beautiful but there were no public areas inside to sit and view the ocean.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Bed uncomfortable, couch uncomfortable, bathroom small, room not cleaned well enough, plenty of storage space

Ship tip

Go to all the shows. Make reservations for shows and My Time dining or you will be standing in line.

So yea ships ha e gotten bigger so food must be adapted to feed more faster. Comparing a cruise from 30 years ago really isn’t a comparison. Maybe cruising isn’t for you anymore

Very good review. I agree with most, and cruising has changed. With the exception of maybe some of the higher end cruise lines, we find Royal still meets our needs best. Happy cruising.✌🏻
