After being on the Allure of the Seas and now the Harmony of the Seas my husband and I both agree we prefer the smaller ships. We only walked around the ports in all three stops only because we have been to them all several times before so I can't comment on those. HOS is a beautiful Mega ship with plenty to do to keep you busy.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Embarkation is the same as always. Get there at 10:30 and board at 11:45. I must say that RCL has a nicer waiting area .
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
We ate all our meals in the main dining rooms. Specialty restaurants were all booked up or they had opening at 9:30PM at night. That's the problem with being on a ship this big. The first two nights the lines to get in the main dining rooms were out to the promenade area. It didn't matter if you had 6:15PM reservations. The first night we had to eat at the Bistro in the Solarium because we couldn't get into the main dining room. The second night we stood in the reservation line for 30 min. and finally they moved us down to the 3rd floor dining room because the dining room we are suppose to eat in was full. Needless to say many people like us who had reservations were very upset. The food on the HOS is mediocre. I found it to be very very salty so salty that at times I left my whole plate of food. The windjammer we ate at twice for lunch and the Bistro were the same mediocre.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
The pools on the ship I couldn't even get next to them. The Chairs were all taken and people sat around the whole pool dangling their legs in them so it was hard to even get in the pool.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
I must say the entertainment on the ship was excellent. The musicians in the Jazz club were the best! They put on a concert one night in there and we enjoyed every minute of it!
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Our room steward Oscar was a rock star! He kept our room top notch the whole trip. We never got a regular table in the main dining room untill our 5th night on the cruise. Our waiter and asst. waiter Edd & Lennon were great. We had some great bartenders in the Pub Junior and Francis and our bartenders in the Casino were great!
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
The ship's layout and design was beautiful. We had no problem getting around after the first day. Remember this ship has 6,000 passengers and I believe 1500 to 2000 employee's . On sea days it is very crowded. Over all the ship is maintained well and kept very clean.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
We like this type of cabin in the front of the ship because the window is huge overlooking the helipad. You also have a lot of extra room because of the shape of the room. As far as comfort the bed is as hard as a rock! We have been on 16 plus cruises and this is the first time we found a bed to be so hard. We have been on 4 RCL cruises and all the beds previous to this cruise have been perfect. We found it very hard no punt intended to get comfortable on this bed. We woke up in the morning sore and stiff. We found other couples complaining of the same. One couple asked the their room steward why the bed is so hard and he said that RCL changed who they get their mattress's from? As far as cleanliness of our cabin it was always kept clean an neat. Our room steward Oscar rocked it!
Ship tip
Remember the ship is large and over 6,000 passengers. If you don't like huge ships I would not recommend this ship. If you like Mega ships than go for it you'll find you will never be bored.
