Review summary

Royal has been our go-to cruise line forever. Every time we go on a cruise, it's always fun. Harmony is an amazingly beautiful ship. The staff was courteous, the rooms were beautiful, the beds comfortable, the shows top-notch.

That said, there are some issues. Some minor, others problematic.

The bionic bar was down a robot the entire length of the cruise.

The rising tide bar had no tide under it. It was simply a bar on an elevator. That was disappointing, since it was a focal point of the Promenade.

The Promenade on this ship, their newest one, was not nearly as nice as the one on Allure. There are small differences, but they were missed. No bakery. No champaign bar or a place to get caviar.

The comedy club was much larger, but with pillars throughout, and an entire section that has to watch the show on a TV because there are no sight lines, it's poorly set up.

The bartenders seemed overwhelmed. They were running around in circles, missing new patrons, and serving others that just arrived while those that had been waiting were bypassed.

The other issue I'm starting to find with RC is the price of their excursions.

Excursions that are handled by 3rd party vendors are one thing. But at Labadee, the price of their zip-line and rollercoaster is insane. The price on board was $170+ a person. That's pure insanity.

Also, at Labadee, the sheer amount of local vendors is enough to throw you off from wanting to stay on the island. "Hello! May I ask you something!" "Hello!" "Hello!" After the 30th person coming up trying to get us to look at their crap, my wife and I had enough. We ended up going back to the ship.

The other thing we noticed was the quality of the dinner service at the main dining room. I don't know if they are trying to persuade people to explore their $$ restaurants, but the food was just blah. The servers (specifically Joven) were also quite dismissive and at times rude.

None of this was enough to ruin our vacation. Royal is still amazing, and will continue to be our go-to cruise line.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The paid restaurants are amazing. The main dining room and shops in the promenade are subpar.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The only show that made sense was Grease, but The Fine Line and 1887 were both amazing. The comedians were both hysterical. The headliner sucked, though - Kenny James. People were walking out throughout the entire show.

Service and Staff

Most were great, some were awful.

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

Beautiful room. The attendant was friendly. The bathroom is quite small. No more mints :(

Ship tip

If you are going on the Western Caribbean tour, chances are you will enjoy the ship more than the destinations. Make the most out of everything available on board.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

1 out of 5
It's Florida. Get on the ship, get off the ship. Get the hell out.

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

3 out of 5
Expensive excursus. Obnoxious venders. Stay away from them. Find a spot on the beach to tan and swim for a while, get some drinks, and go back to the ship.

Falmouth, Jamaica

3 out of 5
Make sure you are on SHIP TIME, which is EST. Ignore whatever time zone you are in. We misses our excursion and had to spend the entire day at the port because we were afraid to leave the area. If you are at the port, try the chicken restaurant next to Margaritaville. Amazing.

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
If you are going off of Cozumel, get read for a 45 minute (each way) water taxi from hell.

Hi We are ending our week on the harmony. wanted to comment on a couple of your points. I respect all review's, it's your personal experience. 1. bionic bar, maybe they needed to get parts to fix it. You still had one working. 2. rising tide bar, that's just the name of the bar. it's cool that a bar goes up and down. 3. excursions book them yourself, much cheaper. just keep walking and say no thank you. would not let anyone kill my joy. 4. I love the food in the mdr. we have Joven as our waiter he is great, funny, our daughter loves him. because of him, we requested the same table every night . we gave him a great review at the mdr. we like him so much we are giving him $50 tip.😎😎

Wow, $170 for the zip line? I've bought it twice ahead of time for $76. 20 days away from my next zip.

Everyone has told me RC food is the worst. Try another cruise line like Princess or Norwegion or Holland America. Even Carnival has better food.
