Review summary

Best part of this cruise was the ship, particularly if you are traveling as a family with children.  There was so much for the children to do they never were bored - rather they had to prioritize their preferences among many great options.  We traveled with a 9 and 12 year old.  The 9 year old loved the kids program, and would get up in the morning and rush us out of bed to check him in.  The 12 year old hung out in the teen program and by the end of the week had exchanged contact info with many teens she met.

We had rough seas the first few days of the trip yet the ship was remarkably comfortable.  Eased my concern about how my kids would handle that aspect of cruising.

Free dining food quality was average.  A little disappointed in the menu in the main dining room.  The "free" menu in the dining room for the suites more resembled the main dining room menus of the past.  The specialty restaurants for us were the best option on the ship and we dined in them 5 of the 7 nights.

My only frustration with this ship is the pool areas.  It was the only time on the cruise it felt like there were way too many people on the boat.  Very difficult to grab a chair unless you treat an at sea day like Black Friday and get to a chair at sunrise.  WAY TOO MANY people in the hot tubs it looked like a crawfish boil.  Was so bad on last sea day my wife and I sat in Central Park and read a book sharing a bottle of white wine.  Still not a bad way to spend a day...

Also worth mentioning for those that value it - The live music on this ship was the worst of all the cruises we have been on.  There was a great jazz band, but the other lounge acts were borderline glorified karaoke.

My kids are already asking to cruise again, and if we do I would target getting on this ship again because it is perfect for families.  If anyone volunteers to watch our kids for a week, my wife and I would likely look for a smaller ship as we prefer that vibe for cruising.

Ship tip

-Tour the ship top to bottom on day one, or you won't know all your options until too late -Plan to use the specialty dining. It is special. -We felt the premium alcohol package was a good value
