Review summary

a 5-night, 6-day cruise departing from Tampa, with stops in Progreso, Yucatán, Mexico, and Cozumel.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Ease embarkation short wait at arrival. Was on the ship within 10 min of scheduled time. Rooms were available by 1:30pm

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The meals in the main dining room are quite basic and lack the high standards and flavorful variety found on other ships. I purchased the beverage package, but the drinks were overly sweet with minimal alcohol content, sometimes excessively so. However, the food and beverage service crew were fantastic, fun, and friendly.

Giovanni's Table

4 out of 5

Lunch was quiet and flavorful I had the seafood linguine. I wish there were more muscles in it for the price. That evening this dish was also served in the main dining area. Kinda devaluing the experience of paying for specialty dining

Great Gatsby Dining Room

3 out of 5

Service staff is fantastic and friendly. Food is standard or as the kids would say Mid.

Schooner Bar

4 out of 5

Basic drinks and activities in this area mostly trivia.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Lots of activities every day entertainment crew was fantastic

Entertainment

2 out of 5
The shows in the palladium theatre were not great. The comedian was dry and struggled to get the audience it was painful to watch at times. The magician was funnier. The shows are catered older people broadway style and tango dancing.

Centrum

4 out of 5

The live bands playing were fantastic one from Cancun doing some great covers and another from Jamaica also with coversThe down side was the game shows in this area they tend to play the music un-necisarily loud when the band is not playing

Service and Staff

5 out of 5

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
It’s and older ship but I’m good shape

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
This cabin is located behind the R-bar on Deck 4, midship, in a hallway adjacent to the port side. While the location is convenient, with easy access to amenities, there is some noise from the centrum and the crew area near the bar. Unfortunately, I can only give this cabin 3 stars due to significant plumbing issues at this level. Sewer gases do not vent properly, seeping back into the room and allowing flies to enter the cabin. Running the sink causes the gases to bubble out of the shower drain, creating an unpleasant experience.

Ship tip

Don’t expect the same experience as one of the larger ships this ship is the smallest in the fleet and older. Much more intimate experience.

Ports of call

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

2 out of 5
3 hours of driving the see a ruin and a church was not worth it not a whole lot to do.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5

Tampa, Florida

Love Royal, but this ship doesn't sound very pleasant. Hope your next cruise is better.
