Review summary

This was our second cruise on Grandeur of the Seas and the second time enjoying the Royal Suite. Each time we were with family and enjoyed sharing the Royal Suite with them. There was never a time when we were bored or having a lack of choice entertainment. We seemed to spend time in the Schooner Bar on both cruises because of the singing and piano playing entertainment--the entertainer being a different person on each cruise. We drifted around the ship from shop to shop, enjoyed the Windjammer Café, stopped from time to time to watch the activities in the Centrum, ate excellent meals in the early evening in the main dining room, and had a delicious meal one of the evenings in the "Chops Grille." The excursions were well organized and entertaining. Wonderful ship and wonderful cruise!!

Embarkation

Great! Went on board about 11:00 am and to the room an hour later.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We usually ate in the main dining room, had the same table each night, the same waiters, and the food was always perfect.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We “watched” most of the activities, such as line dancing, karaoke, group dancing, swimming, whirlpool, and rock climbing. Everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Lots of variation. We especially liked Giovanni and his piano. He was tall, dark, and handsome! Played what people wanted. We were delighted when one of our friends unexpectedly joined in on one of his onstage antics—laughed ourselves to tears. Performers in the Centrum were excellent.

Children's Programs

No children in our group.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Concierge Carlington Berry was wonderful—very helpful and outgoing. He made himself available. Room stewards always did a perfect job. Waiters were always smiling, gave good choices on what to eat, and immediately willing to serve.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The design of the ship seemed easy to navigate. All areas were well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The Royal Suite was perfect for a gathering place for our family and friends. We had seven people in our group, and this group fit perfectly in the room when we were together. Activities in the room included eating, drinking some wine, visiting, laughing, spending time on the balcony--just having a good time. We would have enjoyed spending even more time in the Royal Suite and Balcony, but other activities took up our time.

Ship tip

Do not have any ill thoughts or doubts about sailing on Grandeur of the Seas for the first time. You will have an excellent experience.

Ports of call

Baltimore, Maryland

No excursions. We entered the ship at this port. The port is easy to navigate.

Boston, Massachusetts

5 out of 5
Did not do an excursion at Boston. Have been to Boston before. My husband did leave the ship early to meet up with a relative who drove him to Rhode Island to visit an ill sister and then drove him back to the ship. Carlington Berry, Concierge of the Grandeur of the Seas, had my husband escorted off the ship early to meet his transportation to RI. This made it so much easier.

Portland, Maine

5 out of 5
Did the "Taste of Maine" excursion. We like Portland. The excursion was about seven hours long on bus and boat. Enjoyable with a taste of lobster and apple pie.

Bar Harbor, Maine

At this port we got on a bus and visited Acadia National Park and Cadillac Mt. Beautiful!! Ended up at a restaurant eating a lobster dinner with blueberry cake and ice cream. Good meal!!

Saint John, New Brunswick Did not visit port

Did not visit Saint John. Just needed a day of relaxation on the ship and enjoying the Royal Suite.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

5 out of 5
Again, we got on a bus to go on a trip around Halifax and on to Peggy's Cove. All tours, including this one, were well organized and on time. The narrator on the bus was excellent with information regarding the region and humorous stories. Peggy's Cove was a quaint village, lots of rock formations, nice people, and an excellent restaurant. Could have spent more time there taking pictures.

Well planned. Went quickly. Our planned transportation back to the hotel was KD Elite Transportation, and they were there waiting for us.
