Review summary

While the smaller ship makes some things a bit crowded and harder to find a quiet spot, the ship itself is a nice ship. The crew on this ship were outstanding. This cruise, for us, wasn't about the ports of call, it was about some downtime and relaxing and we achieved that spectacularly! We will be seeing this ship again.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We got there midday, so we knew there would be a line, but it was quick and we were on board in no time. Very smooth.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Dining room food was very good. The crew in the dining room (Elmer and Robin) were wonderful! The buffet staff were amazing. Very very attentive, the food itself, was okay. Some things were really good and some were not so good. Breakfast was always amazing.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
There was a lot to do on the ship, but not a lot that we took part in. Trivia was always swamped and we love the crew, but with the mics and the accents, sometimes it's very hard to understand them. A LOT of activity in the centrum, which made it very loud a lot of the time and the pool deck, of course, was always loud.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The bands on board were very good. Pianists were amazing. The shows -- headliners were good, the general shows were okay. Dancers and singers were great, but they person putting the show together could have done better selections. Broadway night half the songs were songs most didn't even know what show they were from. The night of the "orchestra" (and to be truthful, it's a stage band not an orchestra) when they did their show and they picked their own music, they might have enjoyed playing it, but the arrangements they chose could have been much much better. Didn't really enjoy that much. Everyone is very talented and I just felt they could have been showcased much better. Arrangement selection was lacking.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
I can not say enough about how wonderful the service was on this ship. Sans the shops, everyone on this ship were outstanding. The bartenders in the R bar were awesome and again, our waitstaff in the dining room were outstanding, as were the staff in the Windjammer.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
This is an older ship, and if you really look for it, you could see a bit of wear and tear here and there but overall this ship was very well maintained and very clean. They are always cleaning and maintaining this ship, it was a constant. Very clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
This was an interior cabin, which is very small. Royal's ship cabins tend to be a bit smaller than others, but when you combine the twin beds to one king you are both climbing over the corner of the bed. We didn't have soap when we arrived and had to ask twice for ice. The little table in the room was all banged up, but otherwise it was fine. The room steward took great care of it. Was a little disappointed that in 9 days we only saw three towel animals LOL. The showers are TINY and you get accosted by the curtain the whole shower. Really wished for a little bit bigger shower in the room. If we take this ship again, we may have to pay more to upgrade. Inside cabin is very small.

Ship tip

It's difficult to find a quite place inside on a sea day. The centrum is a hub of dance classes and karaoke and loud activities and the three stories of chairs are usually full. Don't stay in a cabin near the centrum if you want any sleep.

Ports of call

Charleston, South Carolina

5 out of 5
We had a blast here. Very interesting port. Easily accessible to everything. We took a horse and carriage tour, and it was amazing. We got to walk around the port, do some shopping, and it was a really great port. So much to do there, you could do this port a dozen times and still have a long list of things to do and see.

Port Canaveral, Florida

4 out of 5
We didn't go off the ship during this port. We were going to do Kennedy but had done so much in Charleston that we were fine having a stand-still sea day.

Miami, Florida

5 out of 5
We took a cab to the Frost Science Museum and Aquarium. We had a blast. Took a Lyft back to the ship.

Nassau, Bahamas

3 out of 5
Every ship seems to go to Nassau. Once you do Atlantis, unless you are a beach person, there isn't a lot to do in Nassau. Very disappointed in the variety of shops. You have the designer shops, and then 1000 identical tourist shops. I've been to Nassau now, 5 times. Next trip I probably won't get off the ship.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We chose to carry our luggage off, and we were off the ship and headed home in less than 15 minutes.

Tks for info. We were on Enchantment if the Seas back in 2011 our first RC were disappointed in the swaying the whole 9 days! Just hope this ship isn’t the same!! Never had that on Carnival cruises.
