Review summary

The arrival at the ship was well handled by the Best Western Hotel and Conference center. We spent the night there and parked the car there. The bus transportation to and from the ship was excellent. The ride out of the Chesapeake was beautiful. Bermuda is beautiful but the excursion we were on was cancelled due to lack of participation. We took the trolly over to the shopping area where at the Pharmacy my wife was knocked down by the big sliding door at the front of the pharmacy. Apparently those doors don't have sensors to show someone is standing in the path. Since she was blindsided it hit with such force that it knocked her down. She banged her head, cut her arm in three places and apparently fractured a vertebrae. They wrapped her arm and stopped the bleeding. She refused medical treatment in the Bermuda hospital thinking that she had been lucky and was able to walk back to the ship. The ship provided us large bandaid pads and a medicinal ointment to aid in healing. We had to cancel our other excursions because she was in pain from what we thought were bruised ribs. When we returned home we found that her arm was infected and her ribs were fine but a lower back vertebrae did have a minor fracture. We are in the process of getting the medical things fixed but the moral of the story is even if you feel pretty good after the incident you need to get things checked. Refusing medical treatment was our mistake but you cannot depend on foreign ports to offer the same safety features on their equipment that we have become accustomed to in the US. The door should have a sensor and according to the pharmacy manager my wife is not the first customer that was injured by that big sliding door.

Embarkation

The embarkation was great but the walk up to the ship could be improved for older travelers. Layered Zig Zag for 5 decks is very hard for some persons over 70

Ship tip

If you purchase a suite or balcony right under the pool deck your time on the balcony will not be quality time due to constant movement of tables and chairs. Inside the cabin the movement noise was not noticed as much.

Ports of call

Baltimore, Maryland

Same comment as above, the port needs to consider the age of passengers when placing the arrival ramps. the ship could be entered on a lower deck.

King's Wharf, Bermuda

Nassau, Bahamas Did not visit port

I believe you can ask to board on deck 1 & use the elevators. That’s how they board individuals requiring assistance, such as wheel chair & scooter users.

That is terrible. I do hope she's feeling better. I agree 100% about boarding. Husband used a cane and it was awful for him walking up 5 decks.

I'm sorry that happened to you both! How is she feeling now?
