Grandeur of the Seas

7 Night Western Caribbean (New Orleans Roundtrip)

Cabin type: Oceanview

Review summary

This is a mid-size ship and our first experience with Royal Caribbean. We have generally cruised with Holland America in the past. I really liked the diverse ages of fellow passengers and the multiple projects for all aged children. Many aspects of the ship were just as good as the more costly cruise lines, but it did lack a few of the small attention to detail of the other line: robes and fruit in the stateroom, for example.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Our waiter was an older gentleman from Pakistan, who was professional in every way and made our dining experience most enjoyable.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Most of the entertainment was good - about average for the cruise industry. But the last night's comedian was not a bit funny.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
We had no children onboard, but could observe the activities and enthusiasm of both staff and clientele.

Service and Staff

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Overall the ship was great, clean with an interesting decor.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Smaller stateroom than we usually get for an outside cabin. Only one comfortable chair along with a vanity chair.

Ports of call

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

1 out of 5
I think this cruise created port should be eliminated from cruise ports of call. Not real Mexico.

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
Seven Mile Beach is comfortable. The city is clean and safe.

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
We had a good time shopping and site-seeing in this port.
Don't Miss: Tulum is a beautiful example of Mayan ruins.

Pros: Great food and service in the dining room. Also, terrific adults only pool.

Cons: The last night's entertainment was the least professional we've seen on a cruise
