Grand Princess

Ship: Grand Princess

Cabin type: Balcony

Cabin number: A327

Review summary

Princess ruined an expensive and long awaited vacation by caring more about money than passenger safety. Social distancing was non existent and the crew for the most part were clueless as to service. Ports were more like container depot's of America that a trip to Hawaii. And COVID was the bonus for taking the trip.

We were on this cruise. I don't think sick passengers ever reported feeling bad so as not to get quarantined. What really bothered us was the number of unmasked passengers hacking their lungs out and constantly blowing their noses and sneezing while in enclosed areas. Princess did little to do any mitigation. Just let these people be sick without ramping up safety. This was our 3rd cruise after the pause. First was on Carnival Panorama and second was on Majestic Princess. On both, you could could enter a public area without sanitizing. On this April 4th cruise, the only time they "required" sanitizing hands was on day one at the buffet for lunch. I feel Princess should have seen the spike and started making hand washing / sanitization a must.

I find that cruise ships are handling COVID better than many states. California wanted you to report to work if you test positive and worked in Healthcare as long you felt ok. I am sure Princess was just following the science.

Was she overbooked or just more to capacity than you liked? Our last trip to Hawaii on Princess several years ago also ended up in commercial docks on some stops, and a shuttle on one. Oh, and doing a quick scan on the CDC’s site, many lines have the same mix of colors as Princess, if this made you feel the way you did, hold off on cruises for another couple of years to see if a better handle on the virus’s design can be found.

It’s to bad that you had issues and let them effect your having a good time. Unfortunately all ships and all cruise lines are dealing with Covid. In most cases better than the general public. I find your issue with safety questionable, as cruise ships are probably one of the safest places

Nawiliwili & Hilo have always used a freight yard…these are the only facilities available…you need to catch a ride to see the wonders near these ports …. If Honolulu has too m see my ships …again you will be bumped to a less than desirable location…the main dock at Maui is being worked on so ships are redirected to a port near the airport……so for future cruisers to any port and any cruise lines…do some research …ask fellow shipmates or choose a good TA and ask them questions about what your destination ports will be like…so that you are not surprised and do you can make plans that are workable got you…regarding COVID…no matter what other choose to do…unless you plan to live in an isolated self contained dome … you need to be smart and careful everywhere you go

Sorry you had issues. This is not an issue unique to Princess. Most cruise ships currently have positive Covid cases now - 79 of 108 sailing in the US currently per the CDC website. We must learn to live and cruise with Covid, knowing there are likely Positive cases around us at most times.

Sorry your expectations were not met.

Sorry you had such a bad experience. Unfortunately there is Covid on every ship and in every city in the U.S. Only safe place is locked indoors at home. Hawaii is beautiful, but you have to get off the ship to see it. You won’t see the islands from the dock.
