We enjoyed our cruise very much, met some wonderful people, ate delicious food, & saw some entertaining shows.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
We arrived a little later than we planned, so embarkation was pretty quick.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
The food was mostly pretty good. Several people at our table commented on the small size of the shrimp cocktail appetizers.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Went to some of the enrichment presentations, which were interesting to my husband. Was mostly too cold (to us, anyway) to swim.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Entertainment was OK. There were a couple of comedians who were pretty funny, a performer who did a Beatles tribute show, & a performer who did a Nat King Cole tribute.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Housekeeping was acceptable, but not outstanding. Bartenders were definitely on top of their game, I tend to order the same thing repeatedly & after the first few days they had my order almost before I finished asking. Waitstaff in the main dining room seemed shorthanded. They were great at remembering what everyone liked, but very slow taking orders & bringing meals.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
Layout & design were OK. Is an older ship & is showing signs of wear, especially in the public areas. There was a hole in the floor under the carpet by our table in the dining room. Most of us managed to step in it at least once, even though it was marked with duct tape.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Was a standard inside stateroom. Closet was about half the size of the other Princess ships we've sailed on & the lighting was a little dark in the bathroom.
Ship tip
Enjoy! For all the little things that could have been better, it's still a beautiful ship & has a fantastic crew.
We took the open top bus tour, which was a little disappointing. We thought there would be more actual sight-seeing. Instead we went maybe 5 miles, turned around, & went to the main street shopping area. Should have just taken the cheap shuttle at the port.
No excursion. We walked to the Maui Mall, which didn't have much open. Also walked to a small beach close to where the ship was docked. This port is in an area with little of interest to tourists, I highly recommend booking an excursion if you want to see anything of the island.
The Hoppa-On Hoppa-Off Bus tour was set up close to the port, so we took a tour. Hilo has some lovely parks & scenery. Had lunch in downtown Hilo & did a bit of shopping.
Our disembarkation lounge didn't have a sound system set up. We had to rely on being able to hear the attendant make the announcement for our group with no amplification. Mostly older people with hearing problems, so someone with a louder voice or a P.A. system would have made it go a bit smoother.
