Review summary

Cruise was fine, but not my favorite. Would I cruise Princess cruises again? Yes, I choose the cruise line based on the ports that I want to visit. If I cruise to Alaska again, I would not choose Princess.

Ports of call

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
Skagway was a cute tourist town to visit.

Cruise Glacier Bay

3 out of 5
Have been to Glacier Bay before and had a better experience. Had visited Hubbard Glacier before. Visited Marjorie’s Glacier this time. Don’t know if that was the difference or if it was just Mother Nature being stubborn.

Ketchikan, Alaska

3 out of 5
Did not like where the Grand Princess docked in Ketchikan. It was quite a walk to town. Previously had docked across the street from “tourist downtown area” with different Cruise Lines.

Disembarkation

I lived many years in Alaska and love the state. I was thinking of taking a cruise there then spending extra time to show my wife around. But maybe if I do that I'll reconsider using Princess as the cruise line.

During high season When there are multiple ships in...a ship might have to tender or might not get the prime position...Sitka and another island known for grizzlies are the only ones that I am aware of where all cruise ships tender in all the time...so it was the luck of the draw that had you tendering and docking at the far end pier in Ketchikan

We sailed on the Island Princess to Alaska in May and had an amazing experience. Did you partake in any of the Naturalists speaking on the ship? They also brought sled dog puppies on board.... also the Grand is a larger ship, so it probably could not dock closer in Ketchikan... there are quite a few things to consider when booking a cruise...
