Review summary

The other passengers on this cruise were very friendly.  I appreciated the old-school dining, sharing a table with other passengers.  My room steward was also very friendly and helpful.  This ship did not feel crowded at all; it actually felt empty on most occasions.  The less ideal aspects of this trip were the ship itself.  It felt very aged and worn.  The overall décor and shape of the ship seemed very dated (carpet, elevator, paint, room décor, hair dryer, etc).  The food also fell well below the standard/expectations I have heard about the Princess line.  Very sub-par and mediocre.

Service and Staff

My room steward was great, but the rest of the staff did not acknowledge passengers like the other lines I have been on. I felt like they had to be sought out, and they gave the impression that they did not like their job.

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

Good space but very dated. The tv remote kept malfunctioning. Just a heads up if you book this room, you are above a lounge. I was okay with it, but if you do not like noise, it can get a bit loud at night.

Ship tip

This cruise is good for those that just want to sit around and look at the water. This would not be good for those that like to stay busy and active. I would recommend this for an older crowd or those that like to lay around and read/drink.

when they say refurbished, you can check to see what has been updated and often it is only certain areas. don't be deceived by the recent dates .

I also agree about the food and the ship being old. The seats in the Princess Theater are about a "Size 5"...itty bitty. And several seats had frayed upholstery. Those are OLD pieces of furniture in there, like Ford's theater when Lincoln was shot. 😬

I have to agree with you. Thanks for posting your review!

Apologies for the delay in my response. When I said the food was sub-par, I would say it was below the expectations I had for Princess and also not as good as Royal Caribbean or NCL (in my opinion, of course). My cruise was last month. I will say they were always working to keep it clean. The decor was just really old and outdated.

yes, the star was refurbished recently too but they don't Reno everything. still old ships. find to try a newer ship if not happy!

Princess says the ship was refurbished in December of 2016. Was your cruise before or after that month and year?

When you say the food was sub-par do you mean in comparison to other lines or to what you were hoping it would be?

I liked the pros you mentioned. I too like old school dining and old school other things
