Review summary

Overall we had a great time. This was our 6th cruise and our 3rd with RCL. This solidified that we prefer Royal Caribbean. Our one complaint is the people in the cabin next to us were smoking weed on the balcony. Other guests commented on the smell of weed emanating from balconies. It must not be too hard to get through security with it.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We flew in the morning of our cruise. Our flight landed earlier than expected. We arrived at the port fully expecting to wait until our check in time. Instead we were directed to enter the terminal. We were through security and on the ship by 10:30.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food in the MDR was very good. The Windjammer was just ok. It was the same food every single day for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast was crowded so we usually found a table first then went one by one to get food.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
There is always something to do. If laying out by the pool isn't for you, there are plenty of other things going on around the ship. It was crowded around the pool but we were able to find a lounge chair.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The music around the pool is typical around the pool music. It all sounds the same. We enjoyed the ice show and Once Upon a Time. We weren't a fan of the impressionist/comedian and Marquee was good for what it was, it just didn't appeal to us.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Every staff member was friendly and attentive. Our room steward was great and the wait staff in the MDR were fabulous.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship is older and showing her age but it's well maintained and clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
We were on Deck 9 in a balcony. The room was clean but the shower is very small. I banged my elbows numerous times trying to wash my hair. The balcony was a good size. It had 2 chairs and a table. We could walk on the deck without having to move the furniture.

Ship tip

Be nice! I was shocked at the guests who were rude to staff. We witnessed a man being incredibly rude to a bartender in the Solarium. It's too bad there isn't a catapult on the ship where these jerks could be sent overboard.

Ports of call

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

1 out of 5
I did not like this port at all. Once you leave the port area, it's very run down and dirty. The locals can be very aggressive about walking with you no matter how many times you tell them no and then they demand a tip. We walked to Umbrella Street which was nice but we went back to the ship and enjoyed a more quiet ship.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
This process couldn't have been easier. We did the self disembark. The line was very long but once we got moving, we were off the ship and through customs in about 15 minutes.
