Review summary

I HIGHLY suggest choosing a different ship/cruiseline.  My friend and I went on Freedom of the Seas -- our stateroom was covered in bedbugs and we got bites all over our bodies. After bringing it to the attention of the cruise staff,  we were disregarded and disrespected. Turns out, many other people on our hall also dealt with bed bug bites. This entire cruise was extremely disappointing and obviously uncomfortable.  From the bugs the bites, to the lack of respect, to the pitiful communication amongst crew members.  My friend and I were humiliated, painfully uncomfortable and had to go to ridiculous lengths to receive respect and empathy.  This was the last way we wanted to spend our hard earned vacation days and money after going out of our way to book with Royal Caribbean. Our trip was a waste of time and good money. On top of the pain and discomfort of the bugs we missed meals,
missed excursions and were generally miserable because of the way we were
treated aboard the ship. We promptly contacted Royal Caribbean after our cruise and they had the nerve to send us 2- $100 off your next cruise vouchers. Pathetic!

I feel this is a different cruise line trying to steer away people. Haha

deboftheseas    8 years ago

Exactly clifparr! these people have been bitten by midge bugs, that's what I was saying further up in this post

clifparr    8 years ago

Midge bites can easily be mistaken for bedbug bites. They are very common in some of the beaches. It happened to me. I reported bedbugs and RCCL literally disassembled my cabin. I was stubborn and visited their medical facility and was advised of this. I refused to believe it until I did some research of my own. That being said, RCCL takes the threat of bedbugs very seriously...

If whining to guest services doesn't get you the freebies you want, make something up, right?

I agree JusMe. This is the 2nd review that I have seen state Bed Bugs were present but there was no proff (and typically with issues, people are taking pictures). It could be the sand fleas noted before or other bugs.... I know I am super susceptible to bug bites... momma says I have sweet blood lol

JusMe    8 years ago

How do you know it was bed bugs ?  Did you take off the sheets and look for them ?   Take a photo as proof to show them to the customer service desk or post here ?   Were there the tell tale blood stains on the sheets or mattress ?

I have heard of bed bugs on a ship,  but some proof and documentation would be needed.  With out documentation I would think it was sand fee's from in port or something else.  Bed bugs leave blood stains behind.

We cruised the Freedom in December. It was fantastic.

I am a pest control operator so naturally I always check anytime I go to a hotel or cruise. I have never seen any bed bugs on any cruises I've ever gone on. I've always found the bedding to be insect free.

sounds like dubious story

Someone didn't get what they wanted. So this is their way of getting back.

We have sailed FOS many times was on her in May. Never heard this. I think this post is bogus

deboftheseas    8 years ago

Often people are bit by those sand fleas or things called no seems I doubt bedbugs either

bigcruisers2    8 years ago

Interesting. We've sailed on that exact ship 4 times. I have never heard of that. The ship is big but word travels fast. I've been in 3 different balconies and the Ben and Jerrys sweet state room. Never heard of this.

We are going in March I wonder how often they check for bedbugs. You have to be so careful anywhere you go because of them!
