Review summary

Explora Journeys-not your ordinary cruise! Bon Voyage

Embarkation

5 out of 5
If you are looking for luxury on a cruise, Explora I has got it! Even at entry level, Ocean Residence includes the most comfortable bed, spa-like shower with bench seating and step out of the shower onto a heated marble floor. Several inclusive dining options, Anthology Speciality Restaurant has a visiting Chef’s curated Tasting Menu with wine pairing-Excellent! One little known feature is 2 complementary launderettes which are at no cost to access and laundry soap is provided. Extensive wine and beverage options are included in price and no need to display your key card and keep bar tabs. The best part of the journey is exploring unique places with friendly and professional staff. It is a trip filled in making memories. Luxurious comfort without being pretentious!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Professionally trained, helpful and accommodating always a “Good Morning!” greeting with a smile. Captain, Officers and Crew are visible and approachable. Check your daily activities sheet or your My Explora Journeys App (complimentary ship provided WiFi) for a Q&A session with the Ships Captain!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Brand New Ship still has the “New Ship Smell” like a new car! Public Restrooms have electronic slide doors for touch-less entry! Hand washing station at The Emporium Marketplace, hand sanitizer at Restaurant entryways. No one place on the ship felt over crowded, yet plenty of places to gather and socialize.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The best unique feature of entry level category Ocean Residence #6049 is the balcony! It follows a series of larger balconies and there is a small forward forward facing extension and when standing in this alcove, you have the same view as the bridge-captures a full view for photos! Our host could not have been more attentive! Enjoy that chilled welcome bottle of yellow label Veuve Clicqout Champagne 🥂 🍾 and Bon Voyage!

Ship tip

Book reservation only restaurants in advance (limited reservations prior to boarding) and check in day of service, as there is often an opening during various times. Evening dining starts at 6:30 pm, and includes intimate tables for two or seating for larger parties.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

Several options for a pre-cruise stay!

Key West, Florida

2 out of 5
Have visited Key West with prior cruise lines. The Earnest Hemingway Reading and Rum tour/ experience was not what we anticipated for price-walking tour stopped at popular sights we had seen with other tours, disappointingly did not include Hemingway House. Rum Distillery was not expecting group for tour upon arrival-Beware: Rum tasting finally came at very end of a drawn out tour, but not before a sales pitch similar to the 1/2 day Florida Condo Purchase Presentation before getting the free Disney Tickets!!! Would not recommend, take the Conch Train Tour and use funds for a stop on Duval Street for a rum drink!

Spanish Town, Virgin Gorda, B.V.I.

Beautiful place to visit-Billionaires Paradise! Catamaran sailing had liquid sunshine, but weather did not stop the great crew or their friendly Island hospitality! Included Beverages/Snacks, tour highlights, a shopping stop and swimming opportunity. Ship provides fresh beach towels and a gifted beach tote with a couple of very nice reusable water containers (water refill stations for still/sparkling water on board ship)

Deshaies, Guadeloupe

5 out of 5
For fans of the popular British mystery series “Death in Paradise”, Guadeloupe may seem as familiar as the fictitious island of Saint Marie! We did the Death in Paradise Film Location Tour and had a blast! Truly a unique EXPERIENCE and one for which we selected this sailing. Part walking/part Motorcoach tour takes you to the scene of The Honoré Police Station, Catherines Bar, The Beach Shack (which is there during filming starting in January), a very hip beach bar to try local rum and a local fried bread puff appetizer, Bokit. We even came across “Roast Beef” the weathered row boat! Spend the rest of your time roaming the quiet little French Island, it is a true paradise! Series is available for streaming with BritBox and Acorn TV.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

5 out of 5
San Juan, Puerto Rico has bravely and strongly recovered from Hurricanes and is as vibrant as she is beautiful. Lovely place to take a post cruise break! Many options available to stay, great food, lively music, wonderful people! Who could ask for more?

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Luggage pick up outside of your Ocean Residence the night before disembarkation. Swift, orderly and smooth operation. Also, you will be given an assigned boarding time. We arrived a bit early and there was a nice waiting lounge area serving coffee and cool spa fruit water. Pre-boarding was easy once you have access to MyJourneys App. Make sure to place your booking in the name as it appears on your passport for access with ease.
