This was my 3rd cruise with Holland America. I knew what I was getting when I signed up for it. It is designed for an older traveler who does not want a lot of activities and simply enjoy good service and excellent food.

This is a perfect size ship. Not too big easy to get to all venues. The ship is also very beautiful. It is an older ship and could use some updates when it comes to faucets in the State Room bathrooms.
Cabin / Stateroom

Plenty of storage and the beds and sofa were very comfortable. It was spotless at all times. As I said before our only problem was turning the faucets in the shower and sink. They need to be replaced with a different style.
Ship tip
Be prepared to gain weight. Bring clothes that will fit that situation. LOL
We took a taxi ride around the area. It appears quite poor but it was an interesting View of Costa rica. My travel mate has been to Costa Rica many times and said there are much nicer areas so I might go back there someday.
My wife and I are HAL fans as well. Thank you for the review. I agree with your friend, there are many nicer areas in Costa Rica than Puerto Limon. If you want to see them, you might consider Costa Rica Vacations. They book wonderful trips to the best places.
