Holland America is a good choice if you want a quiet cruise. The brand is targeted towards travellers over the age of 70. As for the ports, stay on the ship and you'll get a refund of our port taxes.

Food and Dining

Overall the food was adequate but doesn't compare to other lines such as Princess or Celebrity. The food in the MDR was good, but there were nights when nothing looked that appealing. The Lido buffet was disappointing -- each day was pretty much a repeat of the previous day.
The Dive In Burger bar has good fries and burgers which are made to order.
The Pizza bar has made to order pizza. But it takes 2o minutes to make a pizza and often you don't want an entire pizza. I'd prefer if they simply offered slices.
The bars close much too early -- generally around 11:00 PM. They'll keep the casino bar open later if there are people gambling.

Entertainment

The stage shows were actually pretty good. The Holland America Entertainers put on good shows. We had two special entertainers - a comedian and a magician who were both outstanding.
There is no "on deck" entertainment. No music for the sail away, no on deck events.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Holland America is outstanding when it comes to their crew and staff. This is probably the only reason we continue to sail on Holland America.

The ship is a little dated, but in a good way. It reminds me of an older ocean liner.
Cabin / Stateroom

In the past I've always book verandah staterooms -- for this cruise I chose an Oceanview and was pleasantly surprised. It was identical to a verandah stateroom except the sliding doors didn't open and there was no balcony. The view was pretty much obstructed by a lifeboat. But otherwise the room was bright, open, and airy.
I had high hopes for Grand Cayman. Images of nice shops and luxurious off shore banks came to mind. Turns out it's just another dumpy caribbean island.
Just one minor comment on this review. I always find a nice blend of ages on HAL cruises from 40s, 50s, and 60s too! Just not as many younger 20s and 30s or children, so it is a more sophisticated party crowd. 🍸
