Review summary

One of the best things about Holland America is their constant improvement. Every year they make things better. Another nice plus is they take a priest and have Mass for Catholics every day. The service and staff are the best. Tamarind makes every cruise special. Cruising with Holland makes every vacation special.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
I have sailed on Holland many times and this was by far the best embarkation.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Tamarind and Lido were outstanding. The quality of food and service in Tamarind is comparable to a Michelin starred dining establishment. The main dining room was not as good as in the past and service was slow (waiters waiting on the kitchen). Went to Pinnacle for lunch, compared to Tamarind the food and service were lacking.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Lido has greatly improved this year. The variety and quality were much better. The Asian station, breakfast and desserts were outstanding.

Outside Pool

5 out of 5

The back pool is really lovely and has a wonderful sea view. Much less populated than the front pool which is also very nice.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The Lincoln Center Stage performances were a true highlight of the cruise. The musicians were symphony quality.

Art Gallery

1 out of 5

The art is embarrassingly bad.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
One thing that sets Holland America apart is the people who serve on their vessels. They make every cruise special.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Clean as can be.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Cabins are small. The new balcony chairs are great. The bathroom is well configured. We had two twin beds which are very small and my friends bed was really lumpy.

Ship tip

Go to Tamarind. It will be a cruise highlight. If you attend the Lincoln Center Stage shows go early as they fill up quickly.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

5 out of 5
Lots to do in Ft. Lauderdale. Love the proximity of the airport to cruise port.

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

5 out of 5
My favorite stop. Nothing like the beautiful blue Bahama's water.

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

2 out of 5
Would not get off the ship the next time. Very pushy shops and did not enjoy seeing sexually explicit items in most of them. Hard to explain if you have younger children.

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
Lovely port. Lots to see.

Key West, Florida

5 out of 5
One of my favorite ports. The Key West Old Time Trolley is excellent.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Last off the ship but ZERO wait with customs. This is a huge improvement over previous years.

I absolutely agree!!!! Holland America does things right! And I agree that the Tamarind is a “must do” (maybe even twice!) an any ship that has it! I love the fresh vs. plastic flowers everywhere, and the actual cloth towels vs. paper towels in the washrooms. And there are crew members always cleaning and polishing. They pay close attention to every detail! Cruising as it was meant to be! 🍸
