I booked a 7 night western Caribbean cruise from Fort Lauderdale, Florida with Holland American Line via more than one month before the sailing date. we were excited because it was our first cruise holiday. But I made a big mistake by booking a same day flight, which was scheduled to get to Fort Lauderdale about three hours before the ship Eurodam took off. This nearly ruined our vacation!
The date came. We went to the airport and found that our flight was DELAYED for more than three hours due to mechanical issues. We still took the flight down to Fort Lauderdale and tried our every effort to get to Port Everglades. We realized immediately when getting there that it was impossible to board the ship. She was sailing out of the port. Well, you can imagine how disappointed we were. Head home or catch the ship at the next port?
After talking to an agent of the company, we decided to take a flight to catch the ship at Ocho Rios port, Jamaica. And we made it, although it was the fourth day of the cruise.
We enjoyed the rest of our holiday onboard very much. The food, service, entertainment, onboard activities and ship quality were excellent. No comments on embarkation and excursions as we missed it and did not take any excursions. The disembarkation was kind of slow with crowded people. Overall, I would rate 4 stars as we missed 3 days.
Suggestion: arrive one day early and spend the night in a nearby hotel.
