Review summary

I had really high hopes for this trip with my family, but it was such a huge disappointment. If there had only been one thing to complain about, I could have overlooked it, but everyday was more and more disappointing. Lesson learned, do not book a trip on an older ship!

Embarkation

2 out of 5
We were scheduled to board at 1pm. We arrived at the terminal at 11:45am to drop off our bags and then go park, but we were stuck in line until 1:05pm due to a train.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
This was my 3rd cruise with Royal Caribbean and 4th cruise ever. The food on this ship was by far the worst that I had ever experienced. There was not a decent variety at all! I always anticipate for buffet food to be lack luster, however, the main dining food took that rating this trip! I ended up getting sick on night 2 after eating steak and lobster and had to be quarantined for 24 hrs! This caused me to miss being able to enjoy Cozumel with my family!

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Due to wind, we were not able to enjoy any outdoor activities. The rock climbing wall and trampoline were NEVER opened. The activities inside were ok, for the space that was available... I guess.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The music in the main lobby was always good, however, the musicals in the Orpheum theater were AWFUL!

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
My main dining room waiter for dinner was terrible! She could barely communicate what the menu items were due to a huge language barrier and when she did talk, it was so fast and low that we couldn't understand at all.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
The layout was awful! We could not even get our suitcases past the entry due to the beds blocking the entrance! If you were hoping for a restful night, think again, we were tempted to take out pillows and blankets to the Spotlight Lounge to sleep on the couches because the beds and couch were sooooo uncomfortable. After being confined to the room for 24 hrs, I was in so much pain I was barely able to walk around the last day on the ship. In addition, the ship creaked and rattled like it was falling apart.

Ship tip

DON'T!!!! Pick one of the newer ships!!!

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

The train made accessing the port next to impossible!!!

Cozumel, Mexico Did not visit port

I was stuck in ISOLATION!

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
We waited until the very end to leave the ship being my kids were in group 12, so it was fairly smooth.

MDR menus have gone downhill the last few years, however Royal has zero control over trains and wind. I'm curious what room you booked where you couldn't get the suitcases in the door. I had an inside room on deck 3 on Majesty, which was insanely small, but I had no issues getting the luggage into the room (now a second person would have been another story lol).

Sorry you didn’t enjoy it. We were on Adventure of the Seas in November and loved it. I believe the menus are similar in the dining room on most Royal Caribbean ships. We found good variety and quality in both the dining room and buffet.
