Review summary

After sailing Majestic on west coast last year and being pleasantly surprised at every turn except for short beds (husband is 6'7",) Enchanted was quite a disappointment, especially the lack of care regarding gluten contamination; I became progressively more reactive and ill during the cruise, and it has taken all week to recover despite taking extra digestive enzymes. I also will not sail another ship where the electrical outlets are not next to the bed(s).

Embarkation

1 out of 5
It took the transfer company 3 hours to get enough buses for we who arrived at LGA before 10:30a! We should all get refunded that cost which turned out to be 3x the price of a cab/Uber. The terminal folks were fine, but the guides were ALL still up even though we were now late enough that there was no wait. Wait for elevator was the only inconvenience once actually aboard and headed to cabin.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Main dining had limited gluten free options, but most were tasty. I was not pleased with the leftovers from previous night at one offering. Didn't get to use specialty dining bc of lack of response or allergen menu b4 sailing, then no reservations left. Buffet was not well labeled, no dedicated grills or fryers on this ship. Pizza near pool was safe. Even the hamburgers weren't safe!

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Activities I was interested in were scheduled during on shore times.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The show my husband wanted to see was canceled, and our dinner times conflicted with most scheduled shows. The piazza is not acoustically pleasant to listen, and the balance between instruments and vocals was way off and too loud for the space.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Steward tried to remedy cabin issues expeditiously, and offered ideas how to ensure maintenance response was quick. He kept our room very clean and tidy.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Common area design was fine and easy to navigate, as well as clean. The elevators tended to skip floors that had requested a stop, so I guess some folks figured out how to bypass levels.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Our steward was diligent and attentive. We had requested the bed separated, but it was together so we made it work (husband 6'7", so it was short and he slept diagonally, leaving me with about a 30"w x 54"l curling spot.) My concerns are about design and physical issues. Our balcony door had bad gasket- fixed fine. Neither lamp had working usb outlets- one fixed, the other completely shorted out by "electrician," then usb actually drained electronics instead of charging and light switch arced with each toggle on or off. Big safety design flaw is only electrical outlets across room from bed requiring extension cords be taped to floor to avoid trip hazard- VERY DANGEROUS!

Ship tip

I won't again. Not enough time in Boston or Portland after customs. St. John is a gamble depending on tides- we were switched from 11a-8p to 2:30a-2:30p, so main attractions were slack or not enough time for.

Ports of call

New York, New York Did not visit port

The transfer from LGA to Brooklyn Terminal took 3 hours after landing! Nothing nearby anyway, and NYC not safe anymore.

Newport, Rhode Island Did not visit port

Too touristy and expensive for value and time.

Boston, Massachusetts

3 out of 5
We saved 40% on excursion by using military discounts vs Princess. Either way, Boston should be an early morning to late night stop since most offerings close/stop at 5p after Labor Day, limiting sightseeing to the afternoon.

Bar Harbor, Maine

4 out of 5
Beautiful! Nice walkable areas. Main drag was a tad disappointing due to lack of locally owned shops, but the local restaurants were tasty. No excursion, but I enjoyed the walk around.

Saint John, New Brunswick Did not visit port

port time changed from 11a-8p to 2:30a-2:30p! Excursions and public transit not well rated, and due to time change I no longer had time for the places I wanted to visit.

Portland, Maine

3 out of 5
Not much time to sightsee once US re-entry process complete. Again, it was cheaper to use military discount directly with the narrow gauge train than through Princess, but it's a delightful ride. Princess needs to provide declaration paperwork ahead of time, so those of us who don't have anything can get through faster/earlier.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
Luggage pick up was all mixed up per color tag, ignoring the number on that tag. Our three Teal 3 items were in Teal 1, 2, & 5! Groups were shuttled from 4 lanes to one, to 3 to one to get off the gangway. The transfer bus took another hour once full to leave, and didn't know where to drop off his passengers. We drove around LGA twice b4 he gave up and dropped us off 150 feet from where wheelchairs were waiting for those needing assistance!

Maybe cruising isn't for you, so many problems, don't need that on your holidays

Yes cruise transfers to the ship from airport can take a long time to fill up. The cost is typically more for two or more people than Uber. But if you choose to pay for the transfer, don’t complain it costs more than Uber since you already knew that.

Looks like a possible Troll, no info in bio which is a good indication.

Looks like you had on issue after another, or yiu just like complaining about everything. I'm thinking cruising isn't for you and maybe not even land based resorts probably can't rise to your perfection standards. I've cruised on this ship before and had a great time with great food. The fact he is 6'7 isn't Princess's fault, and you have this issue everywhere you go. Your allergy issues and expectations practically make it impossible to get that perfectly prepared meal, and with 4500 other guests, that need to be served, you expected them to bend over backwards for you. Anything at the port has nothing to do with Princess, those people work for the city or port authority. Just wondering if you enjoyed the cruise at all, or were you too busy complaining about everything.

Seems quite odd….in the profile area of the medallion app there is a dietary section where you can let Princess know you have dietary needs. Did you ask anyone or just expect everyone to know?

Sorry for your dreadful experience.

Wow you hated everything. Or maybe you’re cursed? I travel occasionally with a friend who has celiac disease and we’ve never encountered issues with Dining Mgr not offering meal assistance, even in the buffet area, on any cruise line, including Princess. Thank you for reviewing.

Appreciate your details. Sorry this cruise didn’t meet your expectations.

Sorry you had issues. Just curious if you had spoken to anyone in the buffet or dining room about your dietary needs?

FYI. Haven’t taken cruise transfers for quite a while for the reason you stated. Private transfer is always my choice out of any port. Sorry about your dining problems.
