Review summary

I'm new to this cruising thing, and while we aren't booking another for the forseeable future I'm open to going again. We'd need a bigger boat with more things to do on the days at sea, for sure. Thanks for an enjoyable time, RC! I'll miss your french fries.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
No complaints - we got on the boat easily and it left the dock.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The staff seemed to be working at full tilt all the time. The food was only okay in the My Time Dining room (Starlight). We found the spaghetti bolognese was a safe alternative and I got that twice. Chops was such a confusing experience - 5 large courses was far too much food! When we asked the waiter to clarify he did not totally understand where we were coming from, but he let us share some courses and skip some. The food at Chops was great, what I would have wanted in Starlight, as well.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Pools were busy most of the time, Friends trivia was fun. The performances were the highlight. See below.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The performances were the highlight! The RC Singers and Dancers should be given a raise - beautiful singing and dancing all around! The a capella group (Edge Effect?) was a great show, as well. Talented guys, entertaining show and they were super nice when we ran in to them outside Starlight! We made sure to see what ever show was happening after dinner in the Royal Theater. Rick Corso wasn't that funny, he was very much catering to the lowest common denominator in the audience (not at all funny to me) and actually borderline offensive with the imitation of someone speaking Chinese and some of the jokes about men and women. Before you ask, I'm a millennial but not a "snowflake" so that's not my problem, I just think he should be more aware of what's going on in 2020, and try a little harder with his jokes.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The staff worked so hard and was always very courteous. Nanang and Francisco were our servers in Starlight, and we loved seeing them every night! While the service was slow at times it's nothing to do with them. I think they were run ragged - it seemed like they were always so busy.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Everything was clean and well-maintained. The ship may be a bit old but it looked like a cruise ship :)

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
For the 4 day cruise we took the cabin was perfectly sized. Mohammed was our attendant and we were pleasantly surprised that he took the time to meet us, shake our hands and offer his assistance with anything we needed. We were surprised also at how many times he visited the cabin during the day, offering turn down service as well as general housekeeping.

Ship tip

It's on the smaller side, so unless you plan to be at the pool early daily, bring books to read elsewhere on the deck!

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

5 out of 5
I love Miami. We stayed for a night previous to embarkation. No excursions, we enjoyed the day on our own.

Key West, Florida

5 out of 5
No excursions, we explored on our own. Key West is quaint with a bit of a New Orleans vibe, so once we saw some sights, got lunch and key lime pie we re-boarded the ship.

Perfect Day At Coco Cay, Bahamas

5 out of 5
We could have used another day here! We rented floating mats which I only used once since the current was so strong. Great drinks, atmosphere (until it got busy and people brought their own music) and gorgeous beach made for a wonderful day.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
For what it was it was well organized and went fairly quickly. We waited in a line for a customs, but all in all it took 30-40 mins. We carried our bags with us and tried to get off early - highly recommend.

Glad you enjoyed it. We love cruising and enjoy the smaller ships, but don’t need a lot of extras to enjoy lounging on the deck on sea days. We were just on another Royal ship and thought the food in the dining room was excellent with a good variety and quality. As far as the comedian being borderline offensive, that is what makes a good comedian. Glad to hear a few are not giving into the politically correct crowd. People need to learn to laugh at themselves and not be so sensitive.
