5 Night Key West Havana & Cococay (Miami Roundtrip)
Sail date: July 30, 2018
Ship:
Empress of the Seas
Cabin number: 7516
Traveled as: Large Group
Reviewed: 6 years ago
Review summary
Trip should be shortened and price reduced on this boat for its lack of amenities offered. Drop Key West - experienced cruisers have been there too many times. We had a group of 13 onboard, ranging in age from 11 to 73. It was so small, we should have had more room and amenities for this price.

Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Food was good in the dining room and buffet, but ship lacked other specialty dining near the pool area, so there were times no food was available except by room service that had a limited menu and high tips added.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
We had three young children and there seemed so little provided for them. I had never been on a ship with so little areas of play.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
The only "adult" area catered to 20-30 year olds. Horrible music.
Children's Programs
1 out of 5
Music lyrics in "family areas" were unsuitable for children. There is too much emphasis on sex, drugs and thug life.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Waiters were excellent in the dining room. Victor & Maksim were incredible.
Ship Quality
1 out of 5
Clean, but otherwise boring design. Casino was dominating the space and arcade was poor. We traveled with family - 13 travelers - so there was nowhere for us to gather and sit as spaces were so small. Dining room accommodated us with tables put together which made our anniversary and birthday celebrations nice. BTW: Carnival provided an entire cake for family celebrations, this boat put a small slice of cake in front of the recipient.

Ship tip
Place your value on the locations not on the boat and its amenities. Severely overpriced for the space and lack of amenities.
We did the 5 - hour tour and walked on a self tour for about two more hours. Wished we could have done more. People of Cuba are fantastic - so grateful for the tourism and jobs.
Food service was short lived. Almost missed lunch because of being out at Sting Ray City. Food was OK, but there were only dessert plates left, and forks were scarce - not practical for picnic styled eating.
Personally, I have been to Key West many times and I love going. If there is a port I don't want to go to, I would take a different ship or just stay on the ship.
