Review summary

this was my 8th cruise and by far the least impressive.  this is not to bad mouth Royal Caribbean, it is to provide real feedback for others scheduling and for Royal Caribbean to improve.  The ship is old and in need of updating.  The events were average, the staff was less than optimal, slow and not engaging.  The entertainment, shows, were very good as a point to illustrate a positive.

slow service in the main dinning room and at the bars.

Cabin / Stateroom

Old, there were old ear plugs under the bed showing that it was not cleaned thoroughly, poor drawer space, rust on the balcony and the bathroom shower was too small. Modernization of the ship is needed to improve space utilization.

Ship tip

If you want to visit Cuba and this is your only alternative, I guess do it. Otherwise search for other carriers.

do not schedule a tour, when you disembark, walk through the terminal, go to San Francisco square and rent an old car with driver for the day to take you around.

The Empress will never be upgraded past where she is at now. About a year past a massive dry dock as it is, she is very old, the oldest in the fleet. The Empress was brought back into the fleet specifically for Cuba. If Cuba goes away again like it sounds like it is going to this Friday she will probably be sold again
