The local town centre wasn't too far you had to take a train which I think took about 20 minutes it cost €6.50 pp for a return. All the locals are lovely they love to chat to newcomers very generous they would put you up for a night if you meet the right person but don't do whisky tasting on breakfast.
Again there wasent much at Greenock it was just a local town centre but Edinburgh was about 2 hours away on a train so if you like to travel that the train then why not.
