Review summary

This was the 15th Disney cruise that our family has taken. The changes implemented due to COVID response have created an experience that is not worth the relatively higher cost of a Disney Cruise. The kids clubs, pools, character experiences, and activities that make a Disney cruise worth it are all reduced, eliminated, or highly regulated. The food, wait staff, and bartenders remain the best, but this does not make up for all the other reductions. Our advice is to hold off taking a Disney Cruise until these protocols are relaxed or reversed.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Disney Cruiseline requires all vaccinated passengers to be tested for COVID before boarding after submitting proof of vaccination. The process took approximately 45 minutes which wasn't too much longer than typical boarding wait times.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The quality of the food on a Disney Cruise far exceeds that of other cruiselines. The wait staff in the restaurants and the bar tenders are the highest caliber of professional.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
The onboard activities have reduced considerably, mostly due to COVID restrictions. The pool have capacity limitations which create wait times. The activity schedule each day is fairly limited as well.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Entertainment options have also been significantly reduced, both in quality and quantity. Capacity limitations for the venues means they schedule multiple showings of the same show to accommodate all passengers. The quality of the entertainment was reduced with performers that were new or had not performed recently.

Children's Programs

1 out of 5
Capacity limitations due to COVID protocols meant lines and limited times in the kid's clubs.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
The wait staff and bartenders are great. The entertainment staff was new and not very engaging with guests.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship is in great condition and well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Staterooms are great with comfy beds, ample space, and nice amenities. The stateroom attendant is also attentive and friendly.

Ship tip

Don't bother until all COVID-related protocols are relaxed.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

4 out of 5
Galveston was awesome with good restaurants and fun activities. We went to the aquarium and jungle pyramids (Moody Garderns)

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

3 out of 5
Interesting port town right off of the ship. We took a cab to a beach resort. Lots of beach vendors hawking their bracelets, etc., but weren't too pushy.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
Awesome place with great weather and atmosphere. We did an ATV ride through the jungle to a cenote, tequila tasting, Mayan temple visit, and snorkeling.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Limited capacity on the ship meant no lines and no issues disembarking. Cab ride back to Houston was a little expensive.

Well said as we felt the magic of Disney has gone down, Disney is trying the best they can with what's going on, would I do another Disney cruise... yes but I feel for the 1st time cruisers as they are truly missing the magic.
