Review summary

This was our first Disney Cruise, although we have had cruises with other major cruise companies (Carnival, Princess, etc.) , so I have a good frame of reference.

While the ship and accommodations were fine, there are some warnings I have to others that have not sailed with Disney before. First, travelers should be prepared that on top of the cost for the Cruise, Disney is constantly trying to 'upsell' more products and services. It seems everywhere you turn they find an opportunity to extract more money from you. There is a 'Pirate theme night' which naturally has a Pirate store with pirate clothing ready to sell you, There is a boutique for little girls filled with princess dresses…etc, etc. There are NO LIQUOR drinks included in the cost of the the cruise, this is all extraEven if you want a Cappucino it is more expensive than Starbucks. The biggest shock of them all is how we went to the gym onboard to a foot pain class, and they tried to sell us Good Feet shoe insets for $200! (After reviews on this product, I discovered these were a complete ripoff)

Disney has no 'conflict of interest' policy with the workers selling goods!

no casino. liquor you have to pay for it like in any other cruise. adults have fun areas as well as teens and tweens and kids. i have been on a disney cruise 3 times and never felt like i had to upgrade for anything.

Crazy. Disney's 7 day Bahamas cruise from nyc only has 2 port of calls. One is their private island the other Port Canaveral. No real Bahamas stop. Plus the the stop in Port Canaveral is 17 hours. That's only so you can go to Disney World for the day and spend 250 each. The ship is old to boot. Plus over priced. The Magic is how well they can pick your pockets........

Rpm is right..I have C Rings who have cruised Disney multiple times, and then they did RC Allure, and their kids liked Allure better.more to do

Our Kiddo's are now 17 and 20, only want to cruise Disney, plenty to do! Even w/out youth club involvement. Give it a try! Our kids LOVE the food and movie theatre.

Correct. No casinos on Disney. Plenty to do for all ages.

shelbyporscha    8 years ago

They have activities for all ages

PS - no cruise line offers free booze. That's how they make their money!

Another question, we love Disney World and we love cruising, but we have never cruised Disney. My kids are older (13-20). Is there stuff for them to do or is it more geared towards little children?

DFromATX    8 years ago

Is it true there's no casino?

shelbyporscha    8 years ago

We have only been on the magic and wonder

Sharon...what are your thoughts after cruising a smaller ship? Did you miss anything that larger ship offers? We have only done smaller Disney ships, curious to hear you comparison!

evaskysoftinccom    8 years ago

All cruises do the same you dont have to buy . No cruise offers drinks for free.i have done 25 cruises

I am ready to go on my 3rd Disney cruise and yes you can spend extra if you want but no one forces you to buy anything. We had a great time and spent very little extra. Anywhere you go you will have to buy the extra stuff they don't just throw it at your feet and tell you to take it home for free.

I find it hard to believe that you have cruised with Carnival because I cruise Carnival and there is no such thing as free booze on any Carnival ship! And by the way, all ships try to up sell. I guess you've never been to DisneyWorld or Disneyland.

hey Shelby,we'll be with you on DEC 4th, lucky you can do back to back in Dec, the best decorations and theming! Hoping there is a new Disney holiday movie releasing to see! Happy 8th,the refurbished Magic looks amazing!

Disney is amazing

I did my homework before we went on the Disney Cruise. It just did not live up to the hype. The ship is old and did not fulfill our expectations of Disney. Room had a moldy smell. Service lacked from the room attendant to the servers at dinner, to the Bingo Caller that was knocking Disney future projects and decisions. Just a bad unprofessional experience.

We love Disney getting on the Disney Magic tomorrow for our 8th Disney cruise

Do people not do their homework before booking cruises? Would you buy a new car without knowing its features or what it's MPG is? We sailed for the first time with Disney 18mth ago and all of the things above can be easily found with a quick internet search so there were no surprises at all in our opinion. We enjoyed it so much we're doing our second one in 3mths time.

Cruised the Disney Magic last year and just got off the Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas. Whoa what a difference. The Disney Magic did not live up to the hype or price tag but the Allure blew us away. The flexibility on the Magic is limited as well as things to do. We are a die hard Disney Family and Disney shareholders but would not recommend a Disney Cruise.

Disney rocks! Last time I checked, anywhere you go outside of your home is selling something whether it be food, services, products, etc. So it should be no surprise that Disney does an amazing job of providing excellent options for higher end cruisers and families. Amazing all the time! We can't wait to live on the Magic all summer touring through Europe :)

Disney is the only way to cruise

acruise4us    8 years ago

If you do your homework before the cruise, you will be prepared. We have never felt pressured to make any extra purchases. We do not drink and are not approached for anything and don't mind paying for specialty coffees in the adult cafe. Disney is the best 😄

Katievp    8 years ago

You can bring your pirate and princess clothes with you. We did. It's not like they keep the pirate party a secret. No one is forcing you to buy anything. Drink regular coffee if you're too cheap to buy the fancy.

deboftheseas    8 years ago

And how does any of this differ from Carnival or Princess, except to say you paid way more overall for the cruise itself? no cruise line includes drinks unless you are on Azamara or another verty high end line
