Never again. Worst value for the money. I can’t figure out what you get on their ships other than Disney characters. Expected so much more. If your a Disney fan you’ll love it. We don’t dislike Disney, just felt “robbed” of $3200 for 2 people for a 4 night cruise. We did it for the kids and no regrets as far as that. Made memories!
Embarkation

Smooth and quick. Boarding group 6. On the ship by 11:45 am
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Nothing different than any other cruise line, actually below par. Cruised on 4 lines and NCL the best
Did not like dining experience. No anytime dining. You done at 5:45 or 8:30. And if you are a couple and prefer to eat alone no tables for 2. You rotate through 3 dining rooms. Decor very nice. Felt crowded and rushed. Tables close together. We were a family of 6. You barely are thinking about a drink and I’m being asked are you ready to order? It’s a rushed feeling. Chicken dry, grain fed sirloin awful, gristly.
Cabanas buffet has a good efficient set up. Many choices. I thought the food was better than dining rooms.
Servers rushing, trying to maintain upbeat and they were, but I could feel the “cmon let’s keep moving” undertones through the meal.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
We were the grandparents traveling with my daughters family. Great quiet and spacious adult only pool areas. Decks 11-13. Family pools so small(2 pools) and beyond crowded. 2 days the micki pool has to be closed d/t a child defecating in it. Not on purpose, just small children in it. Aqua Duck slide fun, but get there when it opens as lines become long fast. Mini golf nice. Kids clubs I’m told by my daughter we’re great. No library, no arcade for kids or big kids lol. Compared to NCL or other lines, little to do outdoors. No water park, no ropes or rock climbing walls. Can’t compete with royals new mega ships.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Stage shows spectacular. Disney top notch shows. We visited a few night clubs and the Sunshine Trio was excellent. All entertainment great.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Room steward Oku good, efficient. No complaints. Room clean. All staff helpful. Again a very rushed feeling by servers in dining rooms.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Ship very clean. Layout was fine. Well maintained. No wow factors as I was told to expect. Decor nice, but some areas blah, wood walls.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
This is considered one of this SECRETS of a ship. It was a corner room, classified as ocean view, and HUGE. Had to be 300-400 sq feet. Queen bed, bunk and couch. There are only on decks 6-8 I thing. Front corners. You could hold a party in it. Loved it!
Ship tip
It’s overpriced. Extremely. Have not figured out what we got for a 5 day 4 night cruise that we have had on other cruises. This cost $3200. Did it to make memories with the family. But only once at this price. And felt little for it.
Very disappointed. Been on NCLS private island with huge pools, water parks. Castaway key was a beach, a few things for the kids to swim out to and jump or slide off. One closer. Lunch typical barbecue, ok.
Are you serious. To compare Disney to Carnival is asinine, Disney is a luxury cruise line and Carnival is the Walmart of the Seas. 🤷🏽♀️ I’m just saying.
I sail all lines, to me Disney is the cleanest! On the dining, if you visit the Maitre D when you board you can request a private table for dining! I agree about Cabanas, it’s really good!! Especially breakfast outside Aft View! There are adult dining too that is much more upscale! There is an up charge like on all ships for specialty dining! All the cruise lines have a different vibe and feel, I think they are all good, each ship can be different some better then others! Castaway Cay is beautiful!!! One of my favorite stops! Royal has a really nice island now! I am excited to go back to great stirrup cay soon! I had a good NCL and a bad cruise! I will be sailing NCL again! Can’t judge a line by a ship, they are all different! I’m sorry about the pricing I understand and feel the same in cruising in general, none of the lines are cheap anymore! By the time everything gets added we’ll you have paid an arm and leg! My last Royal Cruise for 3 people in my stateroom 4 nighter was 2300 then after all the other things I had to add on later we’ll let’s just say you know drink pkg, internet, etc well it’s not that cheap! Most time you might get a decent price but you have a lot of other things to add on still before the cruise is over! The newer ships cost even more! BUT it’s what I like to do so I pay it! I love cruising all lines but I love Disney Cruise Line!!
I wish others would read a review better before commenting, especially if your going to react negatively
He said it was a bad value for the money- not that it was bad- it was great!
I feel exactly the same way, I feel bad that people think they are getting something special so they pay 2 3 or 4 times the cost of another cruise- I believe in the Disney difference, but now that I’ve been on a cruise I see it only really exists in the parks
Cruises are such a service oriented business as long as you go in the right cruise, Disney just does not beat it
Again this coming from a huge Disney fan!!!
I went to WDW in April with my kids now my husband and I are going back in November, if will be the 12th time in my life I’ve gone to Disney and I am all in because I believe in Disney, staying on property, dining plan, park hopper tickets, memory maker package etc!!!
This was a great cruise! but I do have to say AGAIN- it was no better than most cruises we have been on, I just cannot justify the price difference:( the ship is beautiful, so are others
We’ve had chocolate covered strawberries, champagne, beautiful hors d’oeuvres cookies etc all left in our room with lovely notes, same as other lines ice and water waiting on us every night our bed turn down with chocolates on the pillow or slippers by the bed. Same as other lines and this is us Not paying anything extra we typically do the cheapest fare in the cheapest cabin on our cruises we are just careful of what cruise line and what ship we choose that makes all the difference and that only means a little bit of research.
I love Disney
There is nothing wrong with DCL
But I just want people to know other lines that charge a 3rd or a 4th of the price and truly do the same things
I’m speaking of RCCL and NCL personally
Disney charges exactly what they should for the parks, they are better than other theme parks and they should cost more than other theme parks- there is a marked difference!!
But I truly see nothing that justifies the extreme difference in price on cruises, I’m sorry but it’s true
I wish it wasn’t :(
Other lines on -bigger newer ships are just as good if not better and do the same things
The 1 thing DCL does is give free soda, well if soda is that important pay $8 per day for the unlimited soda package and you will still save $1000’s on the price of the cruise
I’m so sorry
I know this may upset some
But I feel bad for people who spend thousands extra thinking they are getting something they cannot get on other lines, and other than Mickey & Minnie it’s just not true
Service is the same or better- I swear!
Food is the same or better- I swear!
Kids clubs are great!
The shows are broadway caliber!!! (ESP on RCCL)
You get more activities and a greater variety of activities way more to do because the ships are just bigger and more advanced. They have better stabilization systems so there is less sea sickness -I’m sorry but all they do is cruises and they just know how to do it. I’m really hoping that the new Disney ships will change my mind but they will have to be spectacular and way different to justify the dramatic difference in cost because what I’ve seen from DCL -it’s great BUT there’s nothing better than the other ones.
I say again- you must choose a newer bigger ship!!!!!
But if you do that you will get an equal or better cruise for 1/2, 1/3 or even a 1/4 of the price
I just want families to know the truth
Sorry :(
I truly love Disney!
Go on another line, save your money and go to WDW more!!! It’s a better use of $$ :(
@dvsdog76 - When the experience is justified, I’m willing to pay the Disney premium. I feel in the theme park space, that premium is warranted because my experience at different theme parks has been subpar. DCL was my first cruising experience, I just assumed that it would be the best. I felt robbed after my experience on another line and felt in this space I was just paying for the Disney name.
Jazziearms sorry you had a bad experience I would if def have a talk with the crew to make things right.. you pay a lot of money for what you are doin it’s probably to lay now to do anything but if you are not happy that is less than Disney standards.. Disney wants to make everyone happy if that’s not happening then someone or something needs looked into sorry you had a bad time and hope you will try Disney again in the future.. have a great day!
We went last year on Disney dream as my sons make a wish it was a nightmare from the food to guest services the waiter and room steward was great but never again not worth any money unless you a Disney lover which we are not after that..
Karhcruiser how do you fee robbed? You knew when you paid for the cruise what the price is? I don’t understand why people say that it’s not a service you pay for when your done it’s paid for before hand it’s Disney you know you pay for Disney if royal was owned by Disney it would be higher also.. ittom line you pay for Disney
Totally agree with you. Especially after sailing on Royal. I absolutely love Disney World and never feel robbed when booking a package there, but I also felt “robbed” on their cruise line. It was a wonderful cruise...clean, impeccable service, good food, great memories. BUT found Royal provided same great service, same quality food and actually better entertainment choices for HALF the price as Disney Cruise Line. Six Flags or Universal vs Disney Parks and I’ll pick Disney every time. Not Cruise line though.
Disney crusie line is not for everyone and is a tad expensive... I notice such a harsh review but most rating you gave was 4 star I myself would crusie Disney when I have no kids goin either but it is what is is like i said it’s not for everybody
Thank you Propwash79, I appreciate your feedback. Yes, I should have done better comparing to Princess, Norwegian, and Carnival. And to other comment, probably not worst value. We booked knowing full well total cost and wanted to make wonderful memories which we did. Everyone see things different and I also appreciate others reviews. TU for you comments.
I would say it's a bit harsh to say worst value for the money... I know Disney isn't for everyone but when you say you've done so many cruises please reflect that in your shipmate info as it will give more truth to you review rather than people calling you out.
I love the Disney Cruise ships. We took daughter, son in law and 3 grandchildren on Disney Dream, their first cruise and did pay ALOT. But it was worth every penny... the memories we made were priceless!! There were over 1,000 passengers that didnt even have children on board. Service was impeccable, rooms were great, food was delicious, shows were top notch.. I KNEW how much it was going to cost when I booked it, no suprise. I rather pay the price for Disney Cruise then price of Carnival. All in preference. I am always grateful to just be on a ship somewhere for a break/vacation.
And I did need to add to my review, that the dining dept and our server went above and beyond having food prepared my daughter and grand daughter could eat, both with food intolerances. That really was appreciated. I think Disney is for all, kids especially.
