Review summary

We will NEVER go on another cruise by DISNEY! Plus, they "TIP/GRATUITY" you to death!!! DONT THINK THAT YOU CAN ONLY PAY THE MANDATORY DAILY GRATUITY!! EVERYONE EXPECTS AND ADDITIONAL PERSAONAL TIP as well!! They even give you freakin envelopes for ALL your servers, host, etc., to give more tips! It's just out of control!!! Come on Disney, pay YOUR employees a living wage and DONT rely on guests to pay it for you!!!!!!

Embarkation

2 out of 5
Unorganized! Insufficient signage!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Did NOT have a good selection, if any at times, of vegetarian dishes! Food was very often cold or just lukewarm!

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
Did not have enough characters.... Lines were extremely long to get a picture with one, much to stressful for small kids to wait that long in line... ridiculous! Additionally, insufficient activities for adults.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Nightly band in lobby was nice.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT THE MAJORITY OF STAFF WHERE SAYING AND/or THEY DID NOT UNDERSTAND US!! We were ALWAYS REPEATING OURSELVES! If they can't SPEAK ENGLISH CLEARLY AND UNDERSTAND CLEARLY what is being said, then DONT HIRE THEM!!! This is one of the MAIN reasons we WONT go on a Disney cruise again!

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Extremely to CROWDED!! ALWAYS someone bumping into us!! Also, decreases SAFETY on ship by being OVER CROWDED!

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Heard toilets being flushed from rooms above and beside us! Sounded like a TRAIN every time, especially while trying to sleep!! Pictures on website were also misleading as to the size and looks of the rooms.

Ship tip

DONT GO! Be prepared to pay way more tips/gratuity than you ever expected!

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

3 out of 5

Nassau, Bahamas

3 out of 5
Atlantis was nice, but not well maintained. Definitely NOT worth the money, unless all you do is STRICTLY use ONLY the pools.

Castaway Cay (Disney Private Island)

1 out of 5
There was NOT enough beach chairs for all guests!!! COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! Try telling your child that you CANT GET ON THE BEACH COZ THERES NO WHERE TO SIT, EVEN ON YOUR OWN TOWELS!! Chairs are packed in like sardines, side to side! There was a great portion of the beach that was restricted to only VIPS, which who knows how a person qualified for that! And to make it worse, no one was even using that area! And this was NOT the adults only beach! It's not like Disney can't afford to open more of the island beach line.... they are just putting as little money into it, to get the biggest PROFIT at the cost of the guests experience!

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
fairly organized, except once again there was insufficient signage as to where to go! This existed throughout the entire trip! Most signage was at the elevators, not in the room corridors or throughout the decks! Come on Disney, spend a little money to provide AMPLE directional signs (more than just 1) in each area! Especially considering KIDS need to be able to follow directional signs EASILY and WITHOUT HUNTING FOR THEM!!!

Please do the rest of us a favor and just stop cruising.

Been on 10 Disney cruises and have never been expected to give additional tips. Personally I do tip certain crew members extra for exceptional service but if you paid gratuity in advance just put the receipts for individual servers etc that they give you at the end of the cruise into the envelope. No additional needed but from here on out you may want to consider another form of vacation. I have never had anything less than stellar service from these hard working crew members.

We always give extra to our servers and room steward because they work very hard and deserve extra. I love all the different languages and never had a problem understanding them.

We stopped tipping all the “extra people” and gave extra to our servers and the cabin stewards.

First of all, we am not affiliated with Disney in any way. We are only satisfied customers. We have been on 5 Disney Dream cruises (and 2 on the Disney Fantasy). We have also scheduled 2 more Dream cruises and 1 more Fantasy cruise. This ship is always clean inside and out. We have never felt pressured to tip any crew member but do so to indicate great service. The prepaid gratuities the dining room staff and room stewards receive are their only pay for the cruise. I would agree with you that these people deserve a higher wage because they work hard many hours per day and do not go home for many months at a time. There are some language barriers because of the diverse staff on board. Instead of complaining about it, turn it into a learning moment for you and your children to find about other cultures and teach the crew about where you are from. We have sailed from the Disney Cruise Terminal at Port Canaveral on 7 occasions. Disney staff members have always been friendly and willing to help with any questions or concerns that might come up. Your comment about overcrowding on the ship puzzles me because I am not sure what you expected. Anytime you put 4000 people on a ship, you are going to run into people and they are going to run into you. However, any number of times on various cruises, we have gotten on the main elevators in the mid-ship area and we were the only people on that elevator. We walk down hallways and we are the only people there. Obviously, any ship-wide events such as dining times, the sail-away party, or pirate night mean that many people will be in a smaller space. You just have to live with it or don't go. You are not required to attend. If you have special dietary requests, did you talk to your servicer or guest relations? At Castaway Cay, when did you go to the island? As the old saying goes, the early cruiser gets the chair. I am sorry that you didn't enjoy cruising with Disney. Did you ever take the time to have a conversation with supervisors or officers on the ship about your concern. I have always found that they will do whatever it takes to make guests happy but they do need to know what the problem is. They can't read your mind. You are entitled to your opinion but I would highly recommend Disney Cruises to anyone that asks.

I've loved both cruises I've been on with Disney. We've sailed on both the Dream and the Fantasy and had great times on each cruise. I don't think cruising is for you. Stay home and enjoy.

Been on two cruises on the Dream. The ship was beautiful and clean inside and out. It is a customary at Disney to have a diverse staff, but they were great and curtious. Our servers and room attendant even greated us by name everytime. service and enrertaiment were second to none. Hard to believe we are talking about the same cruise line

And commenting that people that may not speak perfect English should not be hired is very considerate. Cruise staff work VERY hard, are under paid, spend months without seeing family and have to put up with many obnoxious. They have to hire foreigners because Americans will not do it. They DESERVE those tips. Plan for tips when traveling, whether on cruise or to resort.

For someone who is going to complain about someone else's English, you're grammar could use some work itself. If your kids can't read the signs then they should probably be with you.

I think you should do stay Vacations from now on. Stay away from cruising not for you

Tipping is a very personal action. I do not recall the crew expecting extra tips, but they are ALWAYS appreciative when presented with something extra.

They give you the envelopes to add cash to if you choose to in addition to the 12.00 a day per person that goes to your cabin host/hostess, server, assistant server and head server. If you get spa services, there is an auto 18% gratuity ( clearly stated) and bartenders get 15% auto added as well. Who else were you tipping I wonder? Since there is only one exit off the ship, I don't see how there would need to be signage in corridors telling you how to go to the one and only exit. Same with embarkation. You check in, get a boarding group number, walk onto the ship thru the big gold mickey ears, walk onto the ship with your name announced and then there are lots of folks in the atrium telling you which way to go for lunch, pool etc. Not sure how these could be made better. The character meet and greets happen multiple times a day every day. They are listed along with adult activity options on the daily Navigator you got in your cabin the night before as well as on that in cabin TV. I agree though that you should never sail on Disney again.

cyndimom75    7 years ago

Every cruise we have ever been on does that! It is your choice if you use them or not?

Dvsdog76    7 years ago

You seem like the person that just wants to complain we have been on the dream 6 times and never felt that way the envelopes are for you to put their recommend tip in and it's not mandatory!! Tip as you fill they deserve!!

markcross    7 years ago

Gtatuities are just that, and are not mandatory
