Review summary
This was a good cruise on Discovery Princess and our third time on this ship. Embarkation was kind of a mess. We have Platinum Status but the Platinum area was full of everyone that wasn’t Elite status so there was no advantage when boarding. Some of the staff there were rude and were giving people conflicting directions. Once on board most things improved. We went directly to the Sanctuary and the preferred slots were already taken and we boarded early in the process. It frustrated me that some people in front of me were booking multiple spots for the week which seemed unfair. They need to work a better system for this. Our room was a mini suite and was very nice and our room steward was fantastic. We had great meals at the Crown Grill, Sabatini’s and Gigi’s. The buffet was good too but getting drinks is very hit and miss there. It seemed better than the last trip but it’s still easy to be mostly done with a meal before you get drinks there. I would prefer if they just did self serve drinks in the buffet. The pool deck food is also quite good. The entertainment was excellent. The Rock Opera and illusionist were great. Tommy McPhee playing piano in Crooners was incredible. Cola Sounds were also a great performing duo. The cruise director, Cole, is one of the best we have had on a ship. The Wi-Fi is much improved over our prior trips. The new app is also much less buggy than before. Service when ordering from the app is so convenient but can be slow. I was lucky a few times and got my orders in 10 minutes or so but I also waited 45 minutes more than once. This convenience is included with the premier package but if I had paid for it separately I’m not sure I would have been happy with the value. Speaking of the package, it now includes some dining like Gigi’s pizza which used to be free for everyone. This has greatly opened up availability at Gigi’s and since I plan on buying the package anyway, it’s a great improvement. All employees I interacted with were super friendly. The tender process in Cabo was run poorly but that’s a small complaint. Disembarkation was easy and we were on the way to the airport quickly. Despite some minor quirks, it was a great experience and we can’t wait until our next Princess cruise.Embarkation
