Review summary

This was our family's first cruise and we enjoyed the experience. We didn't take the ship excursions, simply went off on our own and toured or hired a guide. Enjoyed the stops, especially Turkey and Croatia. Food was fine, ship was great, embarkation slightly confusing for first-timers. Found additional fees added up - be sure to budget cold drinks, better coffees and bottled waters into your trip.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Everyone enjoyed the food, my only complaint that as a vegetarian (the only one in our group) my entrees were lacking in vegetables! )

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We would have appreciated entertainment right up to dinner - the show was over at 2045 and dinner wasn't for 45 minutes. At times it felt that the time was built in because we were expected to cruise the stores and spend!

Children's Programs

1 out of 5
We have 2 daughters close in age and they didn't seem to need organized activities...a few evenings they watched some of the contests and found them pretty amusing(ie Miss Teen Serena)

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
very friendly,multilingual

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
It is colouful, bright and new feeling. At times the layout was confusing and more signage would have been useful.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Fairly small but totally adequate

Ports of call

Dubrovnik, Croatia

5 out of 5
Wandered the city and out of town went swimming where the locals were swimming off rocks - the family loved it!

Izmir, Turkey

3 out of 5
Rented a taxi and guide and went to the ruins - fascinating

Katakolon (Olympia), Greece

3 out of 5
Spent 2 hours wandering the stalls - my kids loved it and it was relaxing but not terribly inspiring.

Istanbul, Turkey

5 out of 5
Rented a taxi and visited the Mosque and museum and spent hours in the Bazaar = very fun but MUCH MORE expensive than expected. The view of the harbour when leaving port was magical.

Bari, Italy

1 out of 5
Very hot, not terribly interesting older part of town, toured the church - never need to go back!

Pros: Very nice to be in one place each night and not worry about moving luggage and finding rooms. When travelling with teens it is great to have food always available.

Cons: Didn't like having to pay for all drinks except unbottled water and bad coffee ....

Recommends Costa Serena? Yes!
