Good Value for the Flexible and Fluent

Sail Date: July 19, 2010

Reviewed: 6 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Oceanview

The ship is a converted cargo ship with low ceilings - Costa has done a good job of renovation but it needs to be done again. The pools are tiny, and the internet worked sporadically

Pros: Staff were terrific and did multiple jobs - the entertainment was really good

Cons: of the 800+ pax only 7 were native English speakers ' many of our tours were cancelled - we took one in French and another in Spanish ' luckily I speak a bit of both

Recommends Costa Marina (RETIRED)? No.

Ship Quality
There is no provision for people with limited mobility - if you are in a wheel chair access to the dining room is only via the kitchen with help from staff. We had to ask each night that the escalator to the dining go down for us to not have to walk down the stairs
Food and Dining
Much of the food was frozen and then cooked ' we appreciated knowing that - and avoided those items pasta was great. We had a wonderful table but really prefer options to dine when you want
Cabin / Stateroom
Service and Staff
Entertainment
we went to the shows every night and they were great
Capri (Isola Di Capri), Italy
The Blue Grotta is a fabulous experience
Don't Miss: Blue Grotto
Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy
This is the port for Florence, a 3-4 hour coach trip or Pisa, 30 minutes - we had been to both ' there is nothing to really see in Livorno itself
Monte Carlo, Monaco
Olbia, Sardinia
The tour was important to take Olbia was not an interesting city ' and we were able to see more of the island
Tunis, Tunisia
not enough time to really explore ' needed to have more time in the port
Don't Miss: Carthage
