Wonderful Western Mediterranean to Baltics cruise, but Costa Favolosa is very Italian and not geared for English speaking cruisers.

Review summary

We loved cruising, but the Costa Favolosa is exorbitantly expensive. The food was really excellent. They close the buffet dining room at certain times and free coffee is only available during meal times. No free ice creams. Very expensive shops and photos. You pay for everything, only your food is included. Remember that they charge you 20 Euros service fee per day.

We were very grateful for seats while we were waiting, and the embarkation went smoothly.

Excellent food, but free coffee only at buffet dinner. Everything is very expensive.

Onboard Activities

The activities were geared towards younger people. We loved the music and dancing. The IMAX was too expensive and they didn't show any movies.

Ship tip

Don't, unless you are Italian, French or Spanish and have a lot of money, because everything is exorbitantly expensive.

Ports of call

Marseille (Provence), France

The Mediterranean Sea was dirty with locked toilets. Not so much to see. Everything was closed on the day we were there.

Barcelona, Spain

We had too little time in this port, as we had to be back at the ship for early sailing. We went on a hop-on-hop-off bus, but couldn't see the Sagrada Familia because of time constraints. Very friendly people. The most beautiful architecture I have ever seen.

Lisbon, Portugal

4 out of 5
We took trams and buses. The Portuguese are very friendly. Very interesting tiled buildings. Not enough time to visit the Tile Museum.

Vigo, Spain

4 out of 5
We loved the outing to the Wine Farm, but we were too rushed at La Toja.

Le Havre (Paris), France

5 out of 5
We visited Honfleur and it was a lovely experience.

Harwich, England

We loved London and the people were very friendly and helpful.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

We loved Volendam and the dutch are very friendly people. South Africans can relate very well to the Dutch.

Copenhagen, Denmark
