Westbound Panama Canal on Coral Princess by scpapiez

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

Had a mini suite on the Coral Princess.  It was one of the smaller ships of the Princess line that I have been on but the mini suite was quite spacious.

The passage though the Panama Canal was a bucket list for me.  Loved that Princess had a lot of opportunities to learn about the history.  On the day of passage, one of the staff named, Bill, narrated the whole passage. So interesting.

Loved Columbia-had a great tour guide.  Costa Rica was ok, too.  Nicaragua was a disappointment.  Part of our tour had to be cancelled.

The food was pretty good, although.  Many options.  The one thing I like about Princess is that many of the entrees (not like the prime rib or lobster)  they serve in the dining room; they also serve at the buffet-so if you've been at the pool and don't want to gt dressed, it's convenient.

Panama canal cruise review by pnayate

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

The food quality was below par.  The quality of coffee was poor.  Quality of desert (sweets) was poor.  Guidance for disembarkation, particular at LA port was poor.

Buffet staff was excellent.  Room cleaning service was excellent.  Over all decor of the ship compared to other ships I have traveled was not that great.

Happy Days at Sea by Cruiser474

Cruise One made this 15 day cruise poaaible. The sights, ship, staff on board and excursion selections made the journey fun.  Traveling through the locks and canal was both a learning and exciting adventure.  Wonderful time! Thanks, Cruise One.  Kathy Turner

Review of Coral Princess Panama Cruise Nov 7 to Nov 22, 2015 by bhbl

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

The music and entertainment was catered to a crowd in their 70's & 80's. It would have been nice to have some more modern music for those in their 50's & 60's. An idea would be to have a disco night.  Some areas were in much needed repair.

Some of the waiters in the dinning room were not friendly and gave us a funny look when asked for 2 entrees. One bar person that stands out is Rhob who worked at the bar by the casino. Also Carmen who worked at the bar in the room where we played Bingo. Bambi our room attendant was very nice and did an excellent job. I wish I would have known to make a sign to show the photographers as we were going through the canal. This is something that can be advertised a little better. Other than that we enjoyed our Panama Canal cruise & experience.

First Princess Cruise by suncruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

The cruise was great - loved the itinerary and the staff on Princess were wonderful.  The entertainment was some of the best I have seen on a cruise.  I loved the cabin layout, BUT I booked a guarantee cabin and was assigned cabin A-347.  I know never to book a guarantee again.  I wouldn't wish that cabin on my worst enemy.  Between 6-7 a.m. every morning there was a loud noise and then what sounded like a crash and then from that time on until 10 p.m. there was a constant water sloshing noise in the cabin that never went away.  Cabin is only fit for someone who is deaf.

Good quality, not great. by schaming1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

The shows onboard were very short, the singing and dancing of the troupe was not the best.  The ship did offer a lot of other entertainers that were so much better. They offered outdoor movie viewing on a big screen with popcorn.  As a couple who have cruised before we found the food in the banquet area to be redundant day after day compared to other cruise lines.  A few nights the food in the dining room was overcooked.  Overall the crew were nice and friendly.  The one problem we had was in Grand Cayman.  We had gone to the excursion desk to check on the weather for the next day before booking a beach trip, since it had rained the night before. They sold us the beach trip after checking the weather.  The next morning the skies were black and grey with rain clouds looming. We no sooner reached the beach area when lightening, thunder and rain started and they closed the beach.  We and most of the tour stayed at the restaurant under tarps until the bus came back for us 3 hours later.  Some people did take a taxi back to town. When we went to the excursion desk to speak to them about the tour, they were rude.  In fact, one guy at the excursion desk was very rude to four other people that wanted to complain about not knowing their tour was cancelled after being sent down and up the decks of the ship, no one knew what was going on.  We did finally get a 30%  discount on our tour.  Limon, Costa Rica was really just a port.  The dock area where we had to walk on had lots of ruts in it.  We saw one man trip and fall in one of the railway ruts. The "town" had maybe 4 stores for shopping.  We enjoyed the Panama Canal and going through the 3 locks.  It is worth booking a tour and getting off the ship.  We took the Gatun Lock and Embera Indian Village tour.  Getting up close to the locks was the best part of our trip, we loved the Panama Canal.

Amazing vacation! by karilynn405

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

We have been on several different cruise lines, and Princess far outweighed the other lines with the staff on the coral Princess! Ryan ( Head Waiter -early seating table #133) and Joku ( asst. waiter) were the friendliest most  accommodating members of your staff. Along with Kumar (bar waiter) and Noel (housekeeping) they made us feel like we were royalty!

Joku made sure there were "soft rolls" for my sister and coffee during dinner for my mother every night, without asking. Ryan went above and beyond to make my parents happy, which made my trip a wonderful experience. Kumar recognized us, and my family, remembering their favorite drinks...you should feel very lucky for having amazing people choosing your company to work for!Happy

Repeatable Experience by elysiumfields12

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

My second partial transit Panama Canal with Princess and I can do it for a third time.

the experience going through the locks in a Panamax ship is an exhilarating experience such that I do not mind waking at 6:00 am in the moRning to get a good spot on the deck for viewing.

i enjoyed visits at all the Ports of call. Of course I would have like to be given a bit more freedom to explore on my city tour of Cartegena. Next time I will do Hop on Hopp off with Viator as the buses now meet the ship right at the berth. On Cayman I would recommend rent a car and drive the island as it is so tiny. Of course with left hand drive vehicle in a right hand drive country it could be a tad trIcky but  the speed limits are low and drivers are quite orderly.

on board experience was the highlight with excellent variety in the menus and buffets. No depletion towards the end of the trip as I experienced on another cruise line. The staff were very pleasant and at all times courteous and willing to chat and exchange pleasantries

with guests. For cruise ship entertainment it was more than tolerable with a very Caribbean twist to most of the music. I know many persons have kindle and such liked but I still believe The library selection of books could be expanded a bit with a few modern titles/authors with more ethnic diversity.

Suggestions for Princess reduce your carbon footprint by encouraging/arranging bike tours and Segway type tours and two, hire local talent at all stops to welcome passengers as they disembark or bid them farewell at the port with maybe a little cocktail or soft drink.

A great experience worth repeating.

Panama Canal Cruise by Cruiser845

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

This Panama Canal Cruise that coincided with, both, ours and Pricess Line 50th anniversaries, was a truly unforgettable cruise.

Havibg traveled much around the world in my life and havibg cruised in the past Princess continues to be my preferred line.

The service of ALL the Princess departments on board were excellent in every aspect. I made a few friendships for the future with a few crew members.

The weather cooperated as well.  Between Cruise One and Princess this was a trip to remember. We had a lot of fun and learned a few things as well.

To have watched for six hours the approaching and crossing the Canal from Deck 16-bow was an amazing experience. We learned a lot as well in the process.

Keep it up.

Pieter G.K.

Super Trip by Cruiser553

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

I would recommend this cruise to the middle aged to older crowd. I never saw more than 6-8 kids on the whole trip....peaceful.

Entertainment was outstanding and there were  many activities around the ship if you chose to stay on board.  We prefer the Horizon Court (buffet) for a more relaxed dining experience with many choices of food.Yummy

Very relaxing and excellent cruise!

I noticed an improvement in food quality, entertainment and services during this trip. However, the photographs value for the money is depreciating, there should be a digital way to transfer the pictures.

Highlight of our PC cruise by Cruiser634

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends

10/10 cruising experience on the Coral Princess. Excellent food and service. Beautiful ship.

Our favorite excursion was the hacienda tour in Costa Rica; a two hour ride to a 100 year old hacienda. Beautiful views, interesting demonstrations on the processing of cane sugar and coffee, and nice lunch. We had the best tour guide "Ivan" (sp?).

Very Enjoyable Cruise and Excursions by billkrick

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

A perfect balcony for this trip; the cabin with a shaded balcony during the warm weather was great; unfortunately, if we had not had this advantage, we would not have enjoyed it as much as we did, and perhaps would have had a negative experience, since my friend enjoys sitting on the balcony with the breeze and the exposed balconies would have discouraged sitting on the balcony when the sun was high.  The stateroom attendant, Erwin, was very gracious and helpful and always checked with us when we were going to be in, so that in fact, he only came in (when we were there) about three times in the 10 days.  Also, the food was very acceptable, and in the Bordeaux room, I was very pleased with the choices of meals--pheasant was a new experience for me, and some of the other dishes were also.  So, we both enjoyed dining in the evening with a plethora of choices in both meals and desserts.  I would say we would go again if we were to go on a cruise elsewhere, but unfortunately, while the cruise was reasonably priced, neither of us will probably go on an ocean cruise again, but it was a most enjoyable experience.

Panama Canal Trip by cousann

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

I was very disappointed with this trip. There were very little activity or entertainment at night time. The dining room staff was great and of course the food was also great.

I met friends who wished there were more entertainment at night time. At 11pm-midnight everywhere is closed.

Great Cruise by ltimura

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

This cruise to the Panama Canal was terrific.  The ports of call were very interesting to us since we had never been to this part of the world before.  The Panama Canal is a site to behold.  It is truly an engineering wonder!  Princess Cruises was great as usual.  The Coral Princess is a lovely ship.  We had been on it before to a cruise to Alaska.  The service, food and entertainment was great.  10 days was just the right length of this trip.  All in all a trip of a lifetime!Happy

Coral Princess Experience by psitko

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

Our experience was overall very good.

The food was acceptable to very good.   Dinners especially was very good.  Buffet was plentiful but not my preference.  The speciality restaurants were very good.

Excursions were very good.

The delay in the excursions on the day of the Panama Canal was very disappointing.  Our target date to start was 9 am but did not happen until 11 am resulting in being on the go for 13 hours straight. This made for a very very long day since we were up at 6 am.

An Excellant Cruise by mbahry

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

Just the trip to the Panama Canal was worth the time and money.  The other stops were okay if you like a rain forest.  The banana plantation gives you a whole new view on your bananas and the work that goes into getting them to us for sure.  The ship was nice food was good, not outstanding but good and crew was great.  I would definitely recommend this trip

great cruise by deniceb24

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

Great cruise overall , food was not like other 2 cruises with Princess, not very good, only veggies offered were zucchini every night, some days with carrots added or broccoli! Ate a lot of salad and pizza, stir fry night was awesome! Afternoon and a lot of nights activities were very dull. Staff were awesome! International Café staff became like family, the best ! Made the cruise so much more enjoyable. All ports were very good , enjoyed them all, seeing the Panama Canal was amazing! Would def recommend this cruise. Experience was amazing.

Great cruise by o5hog

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We love the Alaskan cruise. Sea food was very good, cabin Stewart was very good. A little disappointed with the dining room service, it seems like the service in the dinning rooms have be going down hill on the last couple of cruises we have been on (total of 6 now) and this as was the worse so far. it seems like when the started adding the tips to your bill, the service isn't very good. you get better service in a regular restaurant in the states, and the service in the dinning room on the ships were much better by far when we 1st started cruising
