This ship is in desperate need of refurbishment and needs to add more attractions and beef up the activity schedule. They really need to work on the embarkation and disembarkation processes. I have had experiences on the largest ships that have taken a small fraction of the time it took on this ship. I definitely will not sail on this ship again.
Embarkation
2 out of 5
Embarkation too much longer than any other cruise I have taken even the ones on much larger ships. After going through security we were sent to what was supposed to be an expedited line, but it still took 40 minutes before we were on the ship. Mind you there were only 2 people in front of us on in that "expedited line".
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
The buffet restaurant is in need of refurbishment. The décor is extremely dated and the tables and chairs are badly scuffed, torn and scraped. However the AquaClass restaurant Blu was well maintained and beautifully decorated. The food was good, not the best that I have had on a cruise, but far from the worst.
Onboard Activities
1 out of 5
There is very little to do on this ship. The entertainment in the theater was lackluster and the activities planned by the cruise directors staff were not that interesting (except for archery which was quite fun and not one that I have seen before). The pool is small so therefore was always crowded and the arcade had only about 8 games in it. Other than pools, hot tubs and games there aren't any other attractions on this ship.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
The stage show was lackluster, however some of the bands and musicians were pretty good.
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
Our room steward Arif was very friendly and helpful our head waiter in Blu did the bare minimum however the assistant waitress was very friendly and helpful.
Ship Quality
1 out of 5
This ship is in desperate need of refurbishment. The décor in most public areas is very dated and work especially the buffet restaurant. There is rust, tears, scratches and scraps everywhere.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
The décor is dated and the furniture needs to be replaced. The couch was visibly worn and dingy. However the bed was comfortable and the shower in the AquaClass balcony room has body jets which were the best thing on the entire ship for me.
The ship arrived back at this port at 7am and our flight was not until 4. So, I booked an excursion so we would have something to do until our flight and have transportation to the airport. However all excursions at this port were canceled due to lack of participation.
This is the worst disembarkation I have experienced in the 6 cruises I have taken on 3 cruise lines. It was so disorganized. We were not given the option for out bags to be picked up the night before so everyone had there luggage with them while standing in the long line to get off of the ship. Then we waited in a very long and slow customs line. The disembarkation time we were given was 8:30 and we did not make it off the ship and through customs until almost 11.
We’ve sailed on the Summit for 7 years in a row and going again this summer. Love EVERYTHING about it. We go Aqua class and never had a problem with embarkation and disembarkation. Going to the immigration process takes less than 4 minutes each time. Bayonne has improved a 100% since we first started. The ship is just right for us always had been and always will be
Sorry you feel this way about the Summit.. yes she is an older ship but we love her and the fact that she is not full of glitz.. we have become Elite with Celebrity by only sailing on the Summit and have 3 trips booked on her. We have sailed HAL and Princess and think we have found our favorite on Xty and Summit. By the way where was you debarkation / embarkation nightmare.. if San Juan I understand for debarkation but that was local customs not Celebrity . Bayonne is a joy both ways.
Sorry you didn't enjoy the ship. I find it very much preferable to the larger, newer ships. I actually like the laid back atmosphere on board. The entertainment should be about the places you visit and the things you do in port. The ship is haven of respite from adrenalin packed adventures on shore.
