Review summary

This is third time my family and I have been on the Summit, once in 2011, then 2013 and June of 2016.  The updates to the NJ port make it so much easier getting on and off the ship.

Over this time I have seen the changes that have taken place, some good and not so good. The public areas look good with some changes being done in March/April of this year.

Overall the food was ok, nothing to right home about. We always have breakfast and lunch at the buffet and dinner in the main dining room.

For anyone who has been on this ship you will see a lack of the activities staff. I saw this in 2013 and when I talked to the assistance cruise director and he said Celebrity was cutting back on the number of people and it showed. On this cruise there were only two. Also the types of activities are what it used to be. Some of the other changes I saw were, the price of a pictures, $25.00, what a ripe off. And to top it off it is put in a cheap plastic holder not the better cardboard they use to provide.

This is small item. Another way Celebrity is cutting back is in your cabin. There used to be a pen, paper and even a post card of the ship, no more.

The staff were very helpful and our cabin attendants went out of their way to fix some problems. I always try to talk to different crew members wanting to know how long they have been on the ship, the good and bad of working on a cruise ship and if they ever get off. Everyone said they get off because the internet is either free or very cheap compared to using the ships links. To the management of Celebrity, how about stepping up to the plate and giving the crew free access to the internet and not try and get ever last nickel out of them.

One thing everyone should notice is Captain Alex and his staff. They are very friendly and you can always go up to them and talk about anything.  I had a chance to talk to the captain and found out his wife and 2 year old daughter on the ship with him for the next 3 months. He said that is way he is always smiling. Even though the ship has been updated a few times, it still needs more. I was amazed at the amount of rust. When I looked up from our balcony I could not believe all the rust I saw on the decks above me. Overall it was a good cruise and one of the things we like is being in one spot for almost three days. Some of you may see what I did or not, and may see other things. We like going of NJ and the island. There should be more then enough to do on the ship or off for everyone.

One thing I would ask of anyone taking this cruise or any other one is to take a few minutes and talk to the staff. Try and get to know them as much as you can. They are away from their families for 6-7 months and some of the jobs are require longs hours.

We want to give a shout out to Donovan. You will see him in the morning walking around with a smile on his face looking to refill your coffee on deck 5. He also works in Blu at night.

Good cruising to all!

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship is showing its age and needs a major update. Lots of rust all over the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had the same cabin on our 2013 trip so we knew what to expect. There were some issues that the cabin attendants took care of.

Ship tip

To save money use a taxi of bus to get to the beaches or if you want to do the cave tour. No need to pay what the ship charges for the same thing.

It's kinda silly to complain about pen and paper, just ask the guest service desk for it
