Review summary

Very disappointed considering I ranked Celebrity Cruises as one of my favorites - that is, before I sailed on the Summit. I have been to Bermuda on four cruises three on Celebrity and one on Royal Carribean. Including myself, there were six of us with three cabins - two inside and one Balcony. The ship itself is very rundown and needs refurbishing - that wouldn't bother me as much if the service was better. I waited for the beverage person to come over to our table to offer us drinks/sodas - I had to ask for one and then it took another 25 minutes to get our drinks. That has never happened to me on any cruise! Service on the pool deck was even worse. Only one time the entire week was I asked if I wanted a drink. We had to constantly go to the bar and wait 20 minutes for a drink. I remember being on cruises and couldn't get the waiters/waitresses away from me! My friend paid over $300 for a beverage package and couldn't get a beer and a bottle of water at the same time and when he went up to the bar with a 1/2 beer in his hand they wouldn't give him another one on his way back to the room. They told him "they don't like a fast turnover" I was shocked. The only thing that was served to me on deck was a cold cloth which was very nice and a piece of fruit. The dessert buffet was laid out badly and just your basic, almost store-bought cakes, pastries, etc. Guess they don't do Midnight Buffets anymore?? My 11 year old daughter left her shirt out every afternoon hoping that someone would make a character out of it for her. She even heard other girls talking about what their room stewards did for them. Every night she would say "they didn't do it Mom" I was the only one that had sailed before and the others thought it was okay except for the service. On my first cruise I was like "WOW" The day we were disembarking there were all of these people with celebrity bags which were apparently in their rooms and the cabin steward told them they could keep them. We receiving nothing! We paid for Deck 9 cabins as well. Overall I was just plain disappointed. The rooms were clean but run down. The curtains to the balcony were "shabby and torn in some places" My only regret is I loved leaving from NJ instead of having to fly to the ship but this is also the only ship that departs from NJ to Bermuda for a 7 day cruise. Royal Carribean leaves from NJ but only for a 5 day cruise UNFORTUNATELY. The service was just not there. Every time you did ask for something they treated you rudely or looked at you like you were the one being rude. I have spoken to Celebrity about our cruise and Hopefully, they will take this ship out and refurbish it before I go back next year! I also remember being on ships that you could go and get something good to eat after 10:00 - one night we came back late from Bermuda and at 10:30 everything was taken down - you actually had to go back to your room and order a pizza. Don't ever get a beverage package - not worth it on this ship! BJ's should not recommend this ship to other future cruisers!!!!!

See above - I will say I never saw so many storage areas. Very nice - I though the bathrooms were big.

Ports of call

King's Wharf, Bermuda

Bermuda is the best! Spend one day just on the south shore beaches. You can take take the 7 bus from Hamilton - do not take the bus from King's Wharf - too long about an hour and a half. Take the Ferry to Hamilton and get the 7 bus - the best beach is Horseshoe Bay but go later in the day - not as crowded, Church Bay is very nice and quiet. Bring water shoes for this beach as there is a lot of coral, rocks. If you go to Horseshoe Bay walk to the other beaches from there - I believe it is Warwick Long Bay and ...? Beautiful there. Pay the $2.00 to get to the top of the hill on the way back. Stop at Swizzle Inn for lunch - remember it is very expensive in Bermuda will cost you close to $100 for lunch for four people. Big portions - Share!! Snorkel Park was new since the last time I was there but nice for the last day in Bermuda - You won't have to get a bus back at the last minute and worry about making the ship! Do the Dockyard on the last day. Shop in the Morning...
Don't Miss: the Beaches - Lighthouses - very reasonable prices at Gibbs Hill Lighthouse gift shop!

Pros: Staying in one port

Cons: The Ship

Recommends Celebrity Summit? No.
