Review summary

The Silhouette was a lovely ship. Our favorite part of the ship is always the Solarium. We love the Solstice Class ships for this relaxing area. We chose to relax and not participate in a lot of onboard activities. The weather was wonderful and the ports were great with easy access to excursions.

Embarkation

We arrived around 11am and were on the ship within 15 minutes. Very smooth embarkation

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
We stayed in an Aqua Class cabin and so our assigned dining room was Blu. We didn't care for their menu at all but you can request the main dining room menu if you choose. I've stayed in Aqua before and Blu was much better on another Celebrity Ship. The buffet was great and we decided to eat most dinners in it because we don't like to sit for 2-hour dinners. Tuscan Grill was just average.

Onboard Activities

We attended the Bingo on the first sea day. The crew member running it was rude, in a hurry and acted as if he had someplace else he'd rather be. As Elite Celebrity cruisers we had extra perk cards to play. You don't say tuff when we say slow down! We are quick but this was ridiculous. We didn't go back for second session of Bingo because of this experience. I used the fitness center in the evening and it was uncrowded and great.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We didn't go to any of the Celebrity performers musical shows. We've cruised a lot and are very tired of what seems like the same shows over and over again. The ventriloquist on the last night was average. He took a lot of his act from other ventriloquist.

Children's Programs

We didn't take children on this cruise.

Cabin / Stateroom

Our cabin was an Aqua Class cabin in a great location on Deck 11 aft, port with rooms above us for added quietness. This room is approximately the same size as a regular Balcony cabin but with extra amenities of bath toiletry items, a special multi-jet shower, unlimited access to Persian Garden in the spa, fresh fruit, bottle of champagne and afternoon canapés. The cabin is rather small and I always find the over-the-bed storage a bit cumbersome compared to regular shelves/drawers in closet. The bed was comfortable and all of the pillows are thin square feather pillows. The bath was a typical size for a balcony cabin with what I like to call the "Beam Me Up" shower stall, a lot of storage for toiletries, and a built-in night light. The balcony was deep and roomy with two reclining chairs with foot stools and a table. The room was kept very clean by our steward, Omar. The window treatments are room darkening curtains with no separate sheers. I like sheers for light filtering.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

Key West, Florida

We did the Hop-on-Hop-off Trolley. Pre purchased our tickets through the cruise line. It was a great way to see the town and get off when you wanted to see the sights in depth. Shopping is a lot of fun here too.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

Costa Maya is not a great port of call. You can stay right inside the port all day, go to the water park, which we have done 2 years ago with our kids. It is a great water park. This time we had reservations at Nohoch Kay Beach Club for the day. It was an all-inclusive day at the beach and Miguel took wonderful care of us. The taxi to get there was $2/person one way and it took about 10-15 minutes to get there from the port.

Cozumel, Mexico

Cozumel is a great port for shopping and exploring the island. We booked an all-inclusive excursion to Playa Uvas Beach Club for the day. It had excellent facilities, food and service but there is no sandy beach, only rocks with a bridge across to enter the ocean and a lot of other cruise tours stopped to snorkel there throughout the day. The ship was only in port until 4pm. This is a port where I think they should stay later.

George Town, Grand Cayman

Grand Cayman is Tender Boat port. So if you're doing a non-ship excursion allow extra time to get to shore. Our ship used the port's double-decker tenders which take time to load and unload. We had reservations with Native Way Watersports for there Rays, Reef and Rum Point tour. They met us at there tent inside the port and took us by air-conditioned bus to Cayman Yacht Club to board their snorkeling boat. It was a large boat and there were only 4 of us out with Captain Solomon and First Mate, Maurice. What a great tour. The ocean color in the Caymans is what I like to call my "Happy Place" color. The snorkeling was great with awesome visibility, visiting the rays with just the 4 of us on the tour made for extra interaction/feeding time with the rays and the lunch at Rum Point was delicious. Wonder day in Grand Cayman!

Disembarkation

We decided to do the walk-off with the first group. The ship was very late getting docked. I've cruised a lot from Ft. Lauderdale and have never not woken up to already be docked. I know we were due to arrive at 7:30am. The walk-off line was the entire length of the ship when we got in it at 7:15am. It didn't start moving until 8:00am. Don't book an early flight with this ship's schedule.
