I would highly recommend this cruise. Maybe later in the summer if you don't like cold or snow. Highs in the 30s and 40s, with rain or snow at times. If you dress for it, it's fine. Adapting to sunset at 11pm with sunrise at 4:00am was not easy. It was never completely dark. But the sunsets were amazing! I'd go again in a heartbeat!
Embarkation
4 out of 5
It was a bit unusual in that there's no cruise terminal in Dublin so we went to a building in the port for all the embarkation process, then boarded buses to take us to the ship. Some of the staff were confused in their directing of guests, but it all worked out in the end.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Food in the main dining room was average. I'm not one to usually visit the buffet, but I found the food better there than in main dining room most of the time. I will say Celebrity's buffet is better laid out then most other ships I've been on.
The Lawn Club Grill
5 out of 5
It was freezing outside the evening we had dinner here. About 35 degrees with wind howling. When I inquired about the cold temps, we were told they have heaters and wind breaks, so it would be fine. We were greeted with staff bundling us in blankets held in place with napkin rings. We had fun joking with the group from FL at the table next to ours. The staff were gracious and frozen as well. I refused to go to the salad bar as that meant getting unbundled. I'm from the Midwest, but even I was frozen! The food was delicious. A memorable experience.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
It was too cold to be the out on deck, so it limited some options.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Friendly and efficient. Our room steward was one of the best I've had in recent years.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Beautiful ship.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
The cabin itself was fine, but it's location right off the elevators and centrum was noisy. If music was playing in the Centrum, it filtered up and we heard it as if our door was open.
Ship tip
Fresh ice cream is made onboard everyday, and the flavors change daily. It's complimentary, and in the buffet area, so even if you wouldn't normally visit the area, go have some ice cream.
My favorite stop! Beautiful!! Quaint village. Took the excursion to Lake Loen, walked into a park area and saw a glacier, ate Norwegian waffles served with freshly made strawberry jam and homemade sour cream, it was delicious! The bus driver was amazing! Not sure how he navigated such narrow roads and kept us from going over the edge. If we met a car, the car backed up to get out of the way of the bus. It was crazy tight on the narrow roads. The shops at the ship pier were tiny and crowded, and the check out line took almost an hour. We didn't go into a second shop because of it. Things in Norway are expensive, but we expected that.
Loved this port. It was our first port in the Fjords. Woke to snow covered mountains surrounding us. A second ship was there too, so a bit busy in town. No free public bathrooms. Cost a dollar or so on a credit card to get into the portable bathrooms, but they were clean. We walked the 300 steps up to the Fjord Center. It was cold and rainy, but that was the norm. Some did an excursion up into the mountains for the view, but they ended up in a blizzard! The Fjord center was nice. Be sure to find the restroom doors there...unique symbols! Lol
We didn't spend time in Belfast, but instead took the 6hour excursion to Giants Causeway. It was a beautiful sunny day, and the site was impressive. Many of the Cliffs there are like the Cliffs of Moher. Lots of places to walk there.
Very nice! We did an excursion that toured the area, and an old village. Our tour guide was from Venezuela, and her English was pretty good, but the accent made it challenging at times. She married a Norwegian and moved there with him.
We spent a couple days post cruise in Dublin. It was a bustling city with lots of options. This was our first time there, so a bit overwhelming navigating on our own. No official excursion by Celebrity. In hind sight, I would have spent the time there pre cruise.
Quick and easy. Except they told us there wouldn't be many taxis available and to take their buses to the city center of Dublin and we'd stand a better chance of hailing a taxi. It was exact opposite! Eventually taxis showed up where they dropped us all off.
