Review summary

The Mercury itself was not very impressive. I was expecting a "fancier" ship, especially since Celebrity is known as a "luxury line." Some of the art on the ship was interesting, but most of the decor was fairly boring. The main dining room, The Manhattan, was plain, and the casual dining areas were even more plain. The Celebrity Theater was nice, but the seating was not in the best shape and many of the tables were broken or falling apart. I expected more from the entertainment (billed as "Broadway style productions," but more like off-off-off-Broadway), though the Cruise Director was good and enjoyable. Overall, we had a fun time, but could have had a lot more fun.

Ports of call

Skagway, Alaska

3 out of 5
Skagway was cute and more expansive than some other ports. Still the same shops as everywhere else, though. The White Pass Scenic Railway was very interesting and provided many photo opportunites.
Don't Miss: The White Pass Scenic Railway

Juneau, Alaska

Juneau was small and seemed like every other port I have been to in the Caribbean. The stores were all the same and there wasn't much else to see. We did arrive late, so we did not have a lot of time to explore, though. I was told the museum was a must-see, but we were unable to get there. We did go on a whale watching/wildlife cruise, which was wonderful! We saw humback whales, sea lions, and killer whales.

Ketchikan, Alaska

5 out of 5
Ketchikan was the most interesting port. The town has a lot of history and many fun sites. We went on the Duck Tour which was fun, but warm inside the vehicle. We saw lots of bald eagles and some of the more interesting parts of town. Ketchikan seems like it would be an interesting place to spend a few days and see everything.

Pros: The ports, especially Ketchikan

Cons: Activities on the ship
