Review summary

Even though we had some issues with staff and felt like ship could use dry dock we would still recommend it. Your vacation is what you make of it! This is a great itinerary, specialty restaurants are great to eat at - do those if you can as the food is sooo much better!

Food and Dining

Specialty restaurants were great! Highly recommend going to them over main dining room as the food there was mediocre and menu choices have gone downhill compared to what you can usually expect

Entertainment

Stage shows need some work. Music selection was great in most lounges, poolside and atrium, but unfortunately the volume of it is so loud you can’t carry on any conversations with people you are with, chased us and our travel companions to seek out other places to go on the ship instead of being able to enjoy sitting poolside or in lounges.

Service and Staff

We have traveled on Equinox before and had great service but this cruise was a let down on service. We were treated very rudely by Concierge desk staff when we went to them for help and they did nothing to assist, we were not sat together with our traveling companions and seemed assistance to have this fixed and were moved from main dining room early seating to anytime dining and shuffled around to various waiters and could not get decent times for reservations, we tried to get help from Head Dining Room Manager and Concierge and were dismissed and not properly assisted, after all they made the mistake in not honoring our being seated with our other travel companions which we were linked to and we all had booked far in advance so there is not a good reason they had to separate us. We paid extra to have a Concierge level cabin and our cabin steward was the worst one we have had in over (40) cruises! He did not have cabin properly cleaned and prepared for our arrival, cabin was still dirty, especially the bathroom- it smelled like dirty rags, hair on shower walls, mirror smeared. We came back from snorkeling shore excursion with tight schedule for dinner and needed to shower quickly, he left us only one bath towel in our bathroom, not even any hand towels or wash cloths! We called to get someone to bring us those items and it took over (45) minutes!!! We called Concierge desk to ask for replacement on our pillows (as you get a pillow menu in Concierge rooms to select from and my husband is allergic to feather pillows, and instead of bringing us the pillows towels were delivered! We called again, he brought more feather pillows!! You are supposed to get special treats in your room delivered daily that barely happened and when he did drop them off it was when he knew we had shore excursions and left them on our table, well these were items to be kept cold, by time we returned items were hot and spoiled! Not that this is a big deal, but usually you get at least one or two towel animals left to show they are going extra mile, but we got not one.. little disappointed in that. This guy just didn’t go thr extra mile at all, we had to keep calling for items to be taken care of that were things that should have been done anyway. I can say we got excellent service in the Sky Observation Lounge EVERY evening! Same bartender was there every night and he made us the best drinks and made us feel well taken care of! Also, we had phenomenal service in Effy store and had the best salesperson and manager there! Love my new jewelry items from there, we don’t usually buy any jewelry on cruises, but this time my husband wanted to get me something special for our anniversary and we had excellent service in helping to pick out what to buy and treated so very well!!

Ship Quality

Ship design is great! We love the layout of the Equinox, Reflection, Silhouette. So many choices on where to go and feels intimate for such big ships. The Equinox is starting show a bit of wear and could use dry dock for some items, for instance many of the chairs in lounges or common areas have worn out cushions on chairs so they aren’t as comfortable as they used to be, common bathrooms are definitely showing their wear and tear and need some updating, carpets are on worn side. But overall still love the layout and she is just in need of some extra work to get her back to her prime.

Cabin / Stateroom

This is a great cabin location, extra large balcony due to location, close to everything! Mattress is in desperate need of replacing, worst cruise mattress we have slept on in over (40) cruises, rock hard, broken in spots, curtains need replacing, bathroom floor pops when you walk on it, needs some work in this cabin, time for dry dock for it. But really a fantastic cabin location and love the extra large balcony.. we loved ordering room service for breakfast and sitting out there and had lots of room to move around!

Ship tip

Take time to enjoy more intimate locations on the ship such as the library, or enjoy the sky observation lounge after dinner for a great place to be able to enjoy drinks with friends, music isn’t too loud there so you can hear conversations without having to talk over loud music in many other lounged. BOOK specialty restaurants, all of them, you won’t regret it as the food there is way better then the main dining room! La petite Chef is cute and fun for a different type of experience if you haven’t done it before, Murano’s Chateaubriand for two is absolutely AMAZING and melts in your mouth, plus their soufflés for desserts melt I. Your mouth, but the Tuscan Grille is by far the BEST, everything on their menu is so wonderful, you can’t go wrong on anything there! But book your specialty restaurants online as far in advance as you can, or if you can’t get decent restaurant reservations for them go straight to any of them as soon as you get on the ship to get them booked, you absolutely won’t regret it!!

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

We flew out a couple of days early and stayed at Marriott Courtyard Ft Lauderdale Beach and had a great time there, beach is clean and nice, has chairs you can use, Bubba Gump is right there to eat at, good food and lots of fun there!

Oranjestad, Aruba

4 out of 5
Nice port, not a lot of shopping near shop if you like that, overall a decent island; water is nice for snorkeling. Driving around island we felt like we were back in the US, they had Olive Garden, Starbucks, Wendy’s, McDonalds, tons of shopping centers all over the place and lots of construction going on. Missing that quaint island life feel to it as it’s being so commercialized.

Willemstad, Curacao

This is by far the best island of the (3) ABC islands, so clean, super adorable with all the houses and buildings painted in bright colors, friendly people all over the place, has that island feel to it. Water there is phenomenal for snorkeling and scuba, beautiful beaches.

Kralendijk, Bonaire

Nice island, nice water, nice people!

Love how easy it is to get off ship, lots of porters available to assist and so easy to walk through customs!
