Celebrity Equinox

6 Night Western Caribbean (Ft. Lauderdale Roundtrip)

Sail date: August 07, 2022

Ship: Celebrity Equinox

Cabin type: Inside

Traveled as: Singles/Friends

Review summary

It was my first and last Celebrity cruise. I think it is designed for a very old crowd. I prefer more modern ships with rock climbing, water slides, bowling, skating, karaoke, etc.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
The embarkation process was smooth and easy.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The dining areas were very well maintained. The food was pretty good. The "Classic Wine" selection was not good at all.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
There was not much to do on the ship compasses to done of the newer RC or Carnival ships. It was for more of an older crowd. The "Silent Disco" was the most fun.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The DJ was great all of the time. The "Long Band" from Mexico was very good also. Comedian Kevin Bozeman was the highlight for me. He was first class. The girl who did a Whitney Houston tribute was fantastic. The other shows were not as good, but they were what you can expect on a cruise ship.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
No childbirth in our group

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The ships personnel all did there very best to make feel special. There were a few exceptions. Frank & Ruby in Guest relations didn't really seem to know what they were doing but the Guest Relatons Manager made up where they were lacking. David or waiter from the Philippines was phenomenal. He sang for my grandson who just graduated and he went above and beyond to make sure he had the best dining experience. Our cabin steward was also from the Philippines and he was the nicest, most helpful, most attentive steward. His name was different so I kept saying it wrong. But he was so lovely.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was beautiful, clean and well maintained at all times.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
It was small but so well kept by our steward.

Ship tip

DO NOT purchase anything on the stores it's all over priced, ESPECIALLY the artwork. The Art gallery is dimly lit so you can't see what your signing and you can't return the art with our posting a hearty shipping cost once you realize it's not worth what they claim. Cruises are so inexpensive now because they are designed to rip you off with anything that's for sale. DON'T BUY ANYTHING THEY'RE SELLING!

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

It was able to accommodate all of the passengers very well. No excursions but I spent a week in Fort Lauderdale before the cruise. It was very nice.

Key West, Florida

Another money pit designed to rip us off. Tropical Vibes and other small, locally owned shops are good. Most of the shops are run by Middle Eastern money grubbers. We were told if we paid cash we had to pay extra because the owner didn't have change to give us so we were forced to pay the 4% credit card fee to used a card. %&#!

George Town, Grand Cayman Did not visit port

It was too small to be anything but a money pit.

Cozumel, Mexico

If you don't want to pay the super high prices that the cruise ships charge for their excursions, the businesses in Cozemel won't give you a discount if the know your from the cruise ship. The dolphin encounter hotel asked be if I was on a cruse ship when I asked the price for just being observer while someone in my party swam with the dolphins. $54 for cruisers. I asked what the local price was and was told $49 but locals pay half that price.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Easy.
