Review summary

This was such a fantastic cruise! So much so that we already booked another Equinox Cruise! We’re putting in special requests to have Captain Mat at the helm and Eddy Jenkins in charge of the entertainment! They’re quite the combo! Thank you to all the Celebrity Equinox team! You are all fabulous and helped make our vacation so excellent!

Embarkation

Excellent. We were given details instructions—repeatedly on the documents we would need to produce and in addition we given the ease of uploading all our documents into an app. This made check quick and easy. It also helps that Equinox gives you a boarding number which eliminates the crush to get on board.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Very enjoyable. The food was varied and the experience made even more special because of the amazing waitstaff in the dining room, cafe and Le Petite Chef! They went above & beyond to make each dining experience pleasant & unique. Bali our server in Le Petite Chef saw my pleasure in the animated chefs who prepared our meal (lots of fun) and brought me a capo chino so I could see their reflection in my froth. There were foods we enjoyed throughout the ship. No disappointments.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We promise that next time we’ll use more fitness facilities but for us there were the d’ Coolers—a lively musical group who played at various times throughout the day & evening. There was also Eddy Jenkins, our hilarious ever-present cruise director, who led trivia games of all sorts, comedic skits and fun filled programs on his native Wales! He is a hoot! You’ll love him and also how he treats all a board like a family. Always smiling!! My husband and would book a cruise just knowing he was the director! We also thoroughly enjoyed the ship talks and comedic acts of the Equinox Captain, Captain Mat! He exuded skill, confidence, authority and a great penchant for humor!!

Entertainment

Amazing!! We went to every 9:00 PM high energy stage show. The casts are so talented! We didn’t want to miss any of the their performances. Each one brought a smile to our faces! The original dance and singing shows are a real treat!! Then there is the very talented Celebrity Orchestra—wow! Love that sax and drummer! Rave-Ons are a must band to experience if they are on Celebrity again! You’ll itch to get up and dance in the aisles (we’ll, I did) but so sadly no one took the first step out there! But…in addition to a concert, they gave a pool dance party for all to enjoy! If you hear there’s a pianist, Anthony Sauci, run to his concert & be prepared to be wowed and captivated! He’s a wild piano player with the backing of the incredible Celebrity orchestra. The de Coolers played throughout the day and evening and were consistently excellent with a strong female lead singer who must know every song ever written!

Service and Staff

Sereste was our steward on the 8th floor! He was so kind and soft spoken. How lovely it was to always come into a spotless room. He’s really one of the prides of the Equinox. We hope he’ll be there for our next Equinox Cruise! The wait staff in the dining room was most attentive and always quick to recognize us with kind words.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Just the right size ship! There is easy access to all the activity and dining areas! All the common areas were clean, pool towels were plentiful. Perfect for us to feel very safe. The level of quiet in our cabin and in the hall on the 8 th floor was welcoming. Very respectful group of travelers. Design was great. My husband found his peace in the observation deck & I found mine listening to Carribean music at the pool. One possible addition are lounge chairs and towels on the movie grass deck— a movie under the stars laying flat on the cool grass or sitting upright on a bench is not too comfortable.

Cabin / Stateroom

Loved the location—half way between restaurants, pools and night life— midship. Very quiet because there are cabin floors above and below us and people were all totally considerate of the their fellow passengers—sleeping was great and our cabin was always freshly cleaned by our fabulous steward, Sereste—towels, surfaces. He works so hard and is so dedicated.

Ship tip

Celebrity island excursions are well thought out and we’ll worth the experience and ease of travel on Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao and Grand Cayman.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida Did not visit port

It’s too familiar to us

George Town, Grand Cayman

My husband and I took the Celebrity excursion to sail & swim with the stingray in crystal clear water. Fun trip short bus ride to the boat—never felt crowded. No long lines to get out of the ship. It was all very orderly and organized. And…the stingrays are amazing!

Oranjestad, Aruba

My husband and I took the Celebrity excursion to sail and snorkel—with snorkeling you’re at the mercy of the winds and the winds were mighty heavy on this day. That was fine for the 15’ more protected dive but for the 60 ft dive it was too rough for my taste with low visibility.

Willemstad, Curacao

5 out of 5
The Equinox docked right outside of the new section of Willemstad and it had two streets of a planned community—condos, restaurants, bars, shops. We walked the short 1/2 mile to shop and nibble and then walked across the swinging bridge to Old town. Building colors were unique; however, perhaps because we chose not to take an excursion in Curaçao, we didn’t fully experience the island.

Kralendijk, Bonaire

We took a great Celebrity snorkel trip aboard a family owned junk sailing vessel with the young vibrant owner and his hard working crew. It was a fun experience with a group of about 25 snorkel participants. The crew led a guided snorkel and offered a beach snorkel. Plenty of fish to see but the reefs have lost some of their color. A short walk away from the boat is a delightful little town—about 10 shops plus some local vendors. We bought from everyone! Lots of Bonaire salt to buy—bring cash!

Disembarkation

It was an easy end to our most delightful cruise! Our bags were taken from outside our door by our trusty steward, Sereste, the evening before. We enjoyed our last measuring breakfast. We walked out of our ship, picked up our waiting bags and walked through face recognition. The whole process took about 10 minutes.
