Review summary

Enjoyed the cruise. Chose it to see a new ship, for the number of seadays, and new ports. The ship did not disappoint it was beautiful. Only issue I had with ship was that there was not a chair on the ship that was comfortable to sit in. Great visual appeal little comfort. The Celebrity Edge was an interesting ship with a lot of innovative ideas. I found it interesting that all of pictures on the ship were of woman. Crew was always smiling and helpful. Would I sail on her again? Yes, if the itinerary was somewhere I wanted to sail.

Embarkation

Very efficient. Arrived at terminal on shuttle at 1145 and was on the ship before 1200. I had completed on line registration and provided photo. They checked my passport againt computer files and I was on my way to security check point and onto the ship. I was allowed to drop my bag in the cabin and then on to lunch.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food in all locations was excellent. I would have liked more choices in the Main Dining Room. I tried 5 of the specialty restaurants, Le Grand Bistro, Le Petit Chef, Raw on 5, The Steakhouse, and Eden. I was the least impressed with the Steakhouse, ordered steak medium rare and it came medium. Several other I talked to during the trip said they had the same problem on the cook of the steaks. Didn't do more than taste the grilled mushroom side, no flavor. On the other hand the steaks served in Eden and Le Petite Chef were spot on and delicious. I had lunch 3 times at Le Grand Bisrto, great place for embarcation day lunch (no crowds) also open on port days for lunch. Did not eat in buffet.

The Martini Bar

5 out of 5

Loved watching the bar tenders preform. Discovered several martinis that I liked. Live music was great.

Café Al Bacio

5 out of 5

Great place to hang out. Can enjoy the live music being played in the Martini Bar. Has great coffee drinks, pastries, and cookie.

Le Grande Bistro

5 out of 5

Great food and open on embarcation day and port days.

Raw on Five

5 out of 5

Had lunch and dinner in Raw on Five. Loved the sushi. Hot seafood dishes great too.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Weather was too cool for most of the trip to use the main pool area or the Rooftop Garden. The Solarium was packed most days but no activities held there. They did provide one of the main dining rooms as a game room during the day. Games played though were what people brought with them, nothing organized. Daytime activities limited to trivia, a very interesting lecture series, a few very basic arts and crafts, and games with limited participation between guests and ships officers, intersting to watch but only 5-10 actually participated.. With the exception of last movie all were held in the Rooftop Garden which was too cold with very uncomfortable seating. All movies shown were available on Demand on TV. So limited activities with no thought to temperature and weather of Transatlantic Cruise. Most people seemed to spend the days drinking beverages of choice, reading, playing cards, and chatting, myself included. I spent a lot of time in Cafe al Bacio drinking lattes and reading. Thank goodness for my Nook.

Eden

4 out of 5

Nice place to sit during the day and watch the ocean. Area used for daytime activities but not really organized for groups of people to do things together. Entertainment at night was a little too far out for me.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Really enjoyed the stage shows, Kaleidoscope and Hot Summer Nights Dream. Comedians were great. Musicians at the Martini Bar were great.

The Theatre

4 out of 5

Liked the theater in the round idea. But a little small. Even though there were two showing each night still not room for everyone to see the shows. Shows were great.

Rooftop Garden

3 out of 5

No shade, I burn very easily so sitting in the sun for extended periods is not something I enjoy. Then the weather turned cold and windy with occasional rain so again not an area to enjoy.

Children's Programs

Did not travel with children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Room steward was perfect. First day told her what I wanted and in 15 days she never forgot the little extras. Waiters in MDRs were always very attentive. Staff at reservation desk, excursion desk, and service desk were very helpful and friendly.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Layout was very easy to navigate. Nice design. All common areas were well maintained and kept very clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Loved the bed. Very firm mattress which was a great help with my back issues. Nice to have a sofa and chair to sit on while in the cabin. I liked that the desk folded into the dresser to give you more space in the cabin. Shower in bathroom was great, good water pressure and plastic enclosure. Only issue with shower was that shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel dispensers were too high. I'm 5'3" and had to reach over my head to work dispensers. Cabin was always kept very clean.

Ports of call

King's Wharf, Bermuda

5 out of 5
Did a sunset catamaran tour first night. Not what I was expecting but nice. Slowly cruised in open water with unlimited rum swizzles and dance music. Second day did glass fusion excusion. Ended up with 5 beautiful glass necklaces. Had lunch at the Frog and Onion, nice pub food and drinks. Spent rest of time ashore walking around dockyard.

Ponta Delgada, Azores Did not visit port

Very foggy and rainy day. Decided to stay on ship.

Lisbon, Portugal

3 out of 5
We needed more time in Lisbon. Arrival 2pm left 10pm (on board 930pm). Excursion didn't leave until 330pm, so it was dark by the end. Dinner in Lisbon might have been nice but most restaurants didn't open for dinner until 8pm or so. Would have been a rush to get dinner and make it back to ship in time.

Bilbao, Spain Did not visit port

I have severe back issues, bus trip in Lisbon caused a lot of pain and I decided that if I did a tour in Bilboa might not be able to do Paris excursion.

Le Havre (Paris), France

4 out of 5
Had a great tour guide on excurtion to Paris. She was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English We saw a lot of the city and had lunch at the Eiffel Tower. Only gave it 4 stars because excursion was listed as mild activity with 3-4 steps into bus and we ended up walking almost a mile to and from bus to Eiffel Tower. This was beyond my ability to walk and ended up taking taxi from Eiffel Tower to bus to meet deadline to go back to ship. I would not have taken this excursion if the walking had been listed.

Southampton (London), England Did not visit port

Only disembarked and boarded shuttle to London airport.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We cleared UK customs on board ship during seaday between Lisbon and Bilboa, so left ship when number called, picked up luggage, and exited terminal. 15 minutes from time number called until I was on shuttle to Heathrow.
