Review summary

We waited 20 months for this sailing as we anticipated this new cutting edge ship. We were not disappointed. Celebrity goes out of there way to please and treats us like adults not idiots. I will remain loyal to Celebrity. I tried Princess once and if that had been my first cruise I wouldn't cruise again. I have already booked another cruise with Celebrity. I don't need all that the Edge has and will be happy with any of their other ships as they are committed to keeping ahead of the competition in class and service.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Whisped through the gates at breakneck speed by friendly staff.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The 4 complimentary dining rooms were great! Cypress (Mediterranean) being my favorite. Get the Lamb Shanks! Cosmopolitan, Normandy and Tuscan being my least favorite. Tried the Steakhouse and Rooftop Grill at a premium. The Steakhouse had the best menu of all from appetizer to dessert.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Spectacular fitness center, fun games at the rooftop garden, Silent Disco was a blast. We like that this ship is geared to traveling adults and less to children/families. Go on Carnival or Disney with the family.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The main stage has great potential but did not like the energy of the shows. I always like Celebrities choice of comedians though. The bands that played throughout the ship were pretty good and I for one enjoyed the offbeat show in Eden; Burning Man meets Cirque style.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All of the staff on this ship were top notch. Polite and courteous. Very fast room service. The friendliest waiters and crew members are on Celebrity.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The Edge is in it's own class when it comes to contemporary design and color schemes. We always felt we had plenty of elbow room and solitude when desired yet there were some vibrant areas abounding throughout the ship. Many areas to suit individual tastes. The rooftop Garden and Eden are like nothing else out there. Very serene adult pool area and the main pool area wasn't too chaotic either.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The restroom is beautiful with a big shower and plenty of drawer space. The storage in the cabin seems minimal but there is very much in the way of cupboard and drawer space to make up for a small closet. Took advantage of the new technology/phone app that works all of the room controls and sets many different lighting modes within the cabin. I have mixed feelings about the infinite veranda. While it offers privacy it is more like a window that slowly slides down. The divider doors are unecessary as the veranda is like extra square footage of your living space.

Ship tip

Be open minded. It's different and new....... in a good way!

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

4 out of 5
Fun to go walk the beach at Fort Lauderdale and get a bite to eat at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

Key West, Florida

4 out of 5
Too many dive bars but enjoyed the shopping and treating my wife to the Butterfly Gardens.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
We did an excursion with Native Choice to the Chacchoben ruins and Bacalar lagoon. They are a bit hard to find outside of the main shopping area but they were excellent guides and they took us to a top notch place with excellent food on the lagoon.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
I'm not a big fan of the style of Mexican shops and salesman but we took a cave tour that rocked! Just six of us going miles and miles through a jungle with a non-English speaking taxi driver worrying if we would get back to the ship on time. It was a great experience but a bit tight on the schedule. We ended up over in Playa Carmen relying on the Ferry that handed out barf bags due to the rough seas. What a day!

George Town, Grand Cayman

Loved our snorkeling at this island although we were taken to some reefs close to the main port and anchorages. Can't beat the 80 degree water in January!

Disembarkation

So fast I didn't want to leave!
